  3. Word 2010: Extracting Multiple Images Have you wanted to use the graphics from a Word document in another document, but don’t want to drop and drag each one? Or maybe you would like to save the graphics for future use? Well, here is a quick trick to extract all the images from a .docx file at once! Make a copy of the original file and be sure to save it using the ‘Save As’ option with the .docx extension. This is the file you will use for this Tech Tip.

  4. Word 2010: Extracting Multiple Images • Right-click on the docx file that you want to extract images and choose “Rename“. You will need to change the docx extension to zipto create a single file that will include all of the graphics.

  5. Word 2010: Extracting Multiple Images • A caution dialog box will ask if you want to change the extension. Click Yes.

  6. Word 2010: Extracting Multiple Images • Extract the new file to a folder with any compression/ decompression software such as Winzip, or use Windows Explorer to open the zip file.

  7. Word 2010: Extracting Multiple Images • A new window will open that contains the contents of the zip file. You will need to drill down to the media folder where all the images are located.

  8. Word 2010: Extracting Multiple Images • Once you have located the media files, you can copy and paste, or drag them to another location.
