  2. Part 1: Main Story Page.43 “ One . . . two . . . she had to take the subway fourteen stops to get home. The conductor’s voice in English was a river of sound in her ear, noise following noise like the falling of water over rocks.” This is important because we find out that Mrs.Chen doesn’t speak English and she can not understand what the conductor is saying. I learned that this could be bad because he could say something important like they are taking a different rout.

  3. Part 2: Flashback Page.43 “Five . . . six . . . the door opened and her factory supervisor strolled out of the elevator with her polyester skirt flicking about her legs, stepping quickly and fastidiously, as though the clumps of fabric dust on the sewing room floor dirtied her high-heeled shoes.” This flashback is important because we learn about Mrs.Chen’s job. I learned that she works in a dirty work room full of other people and that it is very hot in the work room. Some call it a sweat shop.
