Projects’ targets • MATVE (Rural Information Networks) – implemented by The Development Center of Kajaani (subunit of University of Oulu) • to create for the project villages an all-inclusive operational culture that utilises information technology and information networks • to support both the development of rural villages and rural enterprises, services and schools in such a way that the countryside will remain a vital environment both to live and do business in

  4. Projects’ targets • GMOA – implemented by Instinct Domain • The adaptation of information technologies to the local and social circumstances • Enabling the target group to gather authentic experiences with the use and design of information technology • Allowing as much people as possible to be a part of the planning process

Start of co-operation • LOCREGIS I – workgroups: The Working Group for Rural Development and Information Society • idea for cooperation (problems in the rural areas almost same in both regions) •  MATVE II & GMOA II • internationalisation of the rural SMEs, raising awareness, cultural festival

  9. Matti & Gretl -festival • 10 day festival in the Village of Pöttsching on May 1999 • SME seminar • farmers market • cultural exchange (music, food, tales etc.) • film documentation • in November 2000 same kind of festival in Kainuu

Effects / results • 2 ½ hrs. media coverage in TV and radioreaching about 2 Mio. people all over Austria • More than 50 articles in newspapers • 7.000 guests at the „Matti & Gretl“ Festival • Up to 200 local actors and 28 SMEs from Burgenland involved • Tourism and gastronomy as „first round winners“ • Improved networking in Burgenland • Higher self-confidence and motivation • Ongoing training and co-operation
