  4. Appropriate Attire for Physical Education • Students will come to P.E. class wearing sneakers. • Students SHOULD wear tie-on or velcro sneakers. • Students SHOULD NOT wear slip-on or “fashion” sneakers which do not provide the proper support.

  5. Appropriate Attire for Physical Education Continued • Students should come to class in loose fitting clothing. • Play clothes which allow unrestricted movement are great. • Please do not wear skirts or dresses. If necessary, wear shorts under your outfit. • Jackets, sweatshirts, hats, and gloves may be needed as the weather turns cooler.

  6. Excuses for Physical Education • If your child is not to take P.E. for any medical reason (i.e. sick, minor injury), the child needs to bring a note signed and dated by you. • Please indicate the reason for the excuse. • Please be as specific as possible with restrictions for class.

  7. Extended Absences for Physical Education • An extended absence means missing three or more classes in a row. • A doctor’s note is mandatory for extended absences. • Please make sure that the doctor’s note is specific about the end and start days for P.E. • If your child can participate with restrictions, please have your doctor write specific instructions.

  8. Progression of Skills for Physical Education • A normal progression of development skills will be followed starting in Kindergarten and continuing through sixth grade • Skills include locomotor skills, motor skills, ball skills, rhythm and dance, team sports and individual sports.

  9. Skills in Physical Education Continued • Other areas of learning include proper exercise techniques, the importance of exercise, good nutrition, rest and relaxation, very basic anatomy and physiology, safety and mental health.

  10. Sportsmanship in Physical Education • An emphasis will be placed on sportsmanship, attitude, cooperation and team work. • Students will be encouraged to show good manners, respect for others and respect for the teacher’s property and equipment. • Students are expected to try their best, even with new or “unliked” units.

  11. Rubrics in Physical Education • Students will evaluate their performance randomly throughout the year through the use of rubrics. • The eleven areas of evaluation are: Bullying, Attention, Participation, Effort, Following Directions, Respect, Responsibility, Teamwork, Listening, Problem Solving, and Self Discipline.

  12. Rubrics in Physical Education Continued • The rubrics are based on a one through four scale with a score of a four being the best. • If your student receives a score of a one or a two, a parent signature is required. • Please return the slip as soon as possible to ensure your child’s participation in class.

  13. Behavior Slips in Physical Education • If a student has broken the school or gym rules, a red behavior slip will be sent home with an explanation of the behavior. • Please sign and return promptly. • The student may not participate in P.E. until the note is returned signed.

  14. Volunteers for Physical Education • I am looking for parent volunteers to assist with some upcoming events and activities.
