Electricity: The invisible Genie What is electricity? • Electricity is the movement of energy carried by excited • electrons, mostly in conductive (conductor) materials. • Electricity moves very fast, and can be very strong. The • electrons in electricity always carry companion • (electro)static and (electro)magnetic fields around them. Where does electricity come form? • Electricity or electric energy can be produced by exciting • the electrons in materials, when doing things like: • rubbing materials against each other (surfaces) • inducing electrons using magnetic fields (magnets) • bumping electrons out of their atoms using sun light • rays (photons) or special chemical reactions (in fuel cells) Have you tried making electricity yourself?
