Deep Geological Disposal – necessary and inevitable part of the nuclear fuel cycle in all currently feasible and future scenarios Basic requirements: - Safety - Technical feasibility - Cost-effectiveness - Public acceptance • on national level • on local level (host region) Regional (international) repositories stable development scheme – all participating states prepared to accept foreign waste Deep Geological Repository – Basic Requirements RADIOTIVE WASTE REPOSITORY AUTHORITY Liblice 25-28th March 2008 2

  20. The solution should be managed by the current generation Trust – highest level trust in the media as a source of information Local inhabitants have more information than the general public The decision should be made by experts and the local population together Benefits for the site are a must and the benefits system should be driven by strict and transparent rules Low active participation, only 6% of local people actively participates in the process To increase support for disposal is extremely time consuming process The attitudes reflect specific features of the facility only to some extend, but reflect trust (in the process, implementor, regulatory authority, state etc.) and changing social environment (changing values).
