  1. Blogging and You

  2. What IS a Blog? • It is a contraction of “web” and “log” • Like an on-line journal or diary • Public on the web • Authentic writing – writing for the “real” world!

  3. Structure

  4. Expectations • Writing for “real world” • What you post IS visible • Tone is LESS formal • More conversational • Trying to spark “conversation” • Can be MORE opinionated • Still written with proper English

  5. Reality • Bloggers are seeking readership - some get paid! • people to consistently read their posts • HOW…. • Have a theme or consistent voice – • Hopeful, sarcastic, poignant, etc. • Have interesting things to say • Say (write) it well • Connect posts to other sources (links)

  6. What to Do? • For now… • Assigned topics / choices • Write about a “page” / few paragraphs • Infuse with voice, humor, ideas, musings, questions, thoughts • And….with proper English writing! • This ISN’T text talk!

  7. Today’s Topic Choices (pick ONE) • “Twe-gret”: a made-up word about social media (Twitter, Facebook, email) postings that you have made…and then regretted. What have you said, posted, emailed that you later regretted? • If you could convince all of your friends to share your opinion about one thing, what would you want it to be? • If you could go to sleep tonight and wake up older than you are, what age would you want to be when you opened your eyes?
