1 st Grade Curriculum Night

1. Welcome! I am excited for another year to begin and to help your children in their learning journey! 1st Grade Curriculum Night Miss Pawlowski

2. Specials • PE- Monday and Tuesday for 30 minutes + TDPE • Art- Every other Wednesday with Mr. Belonio, other week in classroom. • Music- Thursdays for 30 minutes with Mrs. Coates • LRC Skills- Thursdays for 30 minutes with Mrs. G

3. Behavior Plan • Clip Up Chart (sign chart each night) (individual) • marbles (whole class incentive) • Superstar Bucks • lunch with me • sit in bean bag • teacher helper

4. Volunteer Opportunities • about 3 field trips a year- 2 allow for volunteers on a first come first serve basis • Certain centers or activities in the classroom. Will contact prior to activities • Room parents are coordinated by the room parent chair person- room parents will contact classroom parents to volunteer at class parties

5. Technology • 1:1 Ipad mini’s- start up in about a month • students responsible for... • charging it overnight • bringing it back school each day • being respectful of property • completing necessary assignments and activities in and out of school • Kidblog- will be setting up later in the year • Website- http://dg58.org//Domain/640 • listening, interactive educational games for centers

6. Morning Meeting • The start to our day • morning greeting to welcome all • 4-5 kids a day to share about their weekend, month, etc. / feel comfortable to share • group activity • message for the day • Positive way to start off each day

7. Reading • Morning block • Reading Series- Scott Foresman • each week read 2 stories with a related skill- predicting, main idea, sequencing • Seat Work and center- independent- motifed Daily 5 • Guided reading- pulling groups at their reading level, small group instruction • phonics reader- sent home in paper copy or pdf. Read each story 3 times and earn a punch on punchcard

8. Writing • Write Source Book- workbook and hardcover • focus on writing good sentences- Superstar sentence to writing a good paragraph with a beginning, middle, end • journaling • Handwriting book- Zaner Blozer-4-5 times a week

9. Math • new, Math in Focus, linked to Common Core Standards • differs from Everyday Math in that teaches to Mastery • Different layout, uses much higher level thinking. • homework- given weekly or so, will be differentiated as needed. • Pretest and Test Prep (post test)- sees how students apply information learned in a chapter.

10. LTR-Team Time • 1st and 2nd graders together • series of Skills- long E, prefixes, suffixes, etc. • Tested every 5 weeks. • Can move up/ test out of skills • Once finish the Skills, will be doing Comprehension tool kit • introduces skills like inferring, predicting, drawing conclusions in fun whole group and small group activities

11. Science and Social Studies • Science- 1st unit-New Plants- Miss Pawlowski • Social Studies- Families- Mrs. Richards • Will be teaming with Mrs. Richards’ class.
