  2. Popov’s Birth • Alexander Popov was born on March 6, 1859 in TurinskiyeRudniki, Russia.

  3. Popov’s Family • Alexander Popov was born to a priest’s family and had a number siblings.

  4. Popov’s Education • In 1877, Alexander Popov was admitted into Saint Petersburg university to study physics and mathematics.

  5. Popov’s First Invention • In 1895, Alexander Popov created the first safe and sensitive receiver, suitable for wireless communication.

  6. Popov’s other small-scale Inventions • When Alexander Popov was 12, he created an “electric alarm” by connecting a chain and a weight from an old clock to a galvanic battery. This would also be put into his first radio as a “bell relay” years later.

  7. Popov’s Start • Addressing a meeting of marine officers in Kronstadt in January 1896 Alexander Popov suggested establishing a wireless ship-to-shore communication. From this, wireless radio was and is still used to rescue people and their ships.

  8. Popov’s Growing Popularity • Alexander Popov repeatedly showed off his invention to the public and was soon published in five different Russian magazines, but never sold a patent of his work.

  9. Popov’s Work Pays Off • Alexander Popov was the first to demonstrate a radio receiver on May 7th 1895, and this day is marked in Russia as Radio Day.

  10. Popov’s Medal of Honor • Popov’s radio invention was marked with a gold medal at the Electro-Technical Congress in Paris in 1900.

  11. Popov’s Death • Alexander Popov died unexpectedly at the age of 46, having accomplished so little of his daring inventions.

  12. Popov’s Accomplishment • Without the works of Alexander Popov, the modern radio wouldn’t have been possible and life as we know it would be very dull and boring.

  13. Why Popov? • Alexander Popov is my favorite inventor because he was the first to create the backbone of all the different technical devices that we use in our every day lives.
