  3. How to use a siege tower • Construct tower on the battlefield • Load infantry into tower • Roll towards the city/settlement’s walls • Lower “walking plank” • Fight (on top of walls) for control

  4. Times siege tower was used • When assaulting a stronghold/city/settlement, a siege tower was not the primary option • Commanders preferred to use trebuchets or ballistas to break down walls • Only if it didn’t work would siege towers and ladders be used

  5. History of the siege tower • First used by the Assyrian empire in the 9th century BCE • After initial use, its uses and tactics were spread throughout the Mediterranean and then the world • Assyrians also introduced siege equipment such as the battering ram
