  3. Today’s Presentation • RPA implementation: updated matrix to reflect last meeting’s action • Status report and discussion on Complete Streets initiative (Westside RPA implementation) • City Board Responsibilities CDAC 2009-2010

  4. RPA Implementation Teams • RPA Action Matrices • Core implementation team • CD staff, Council member, plus one or two key stakeholders • Meet every 3 weeks to check progress on action items • Item-specific teams CDAC 2009-2010

We know the ingredients: social, economic/financial and environmental elements • How do the elements work together? • At what scale? 2. How do we attain a sustainable community? • Possible steps (from retreat) • start with revitalization (building a foundation for the community) • stability is important • capacity building is important • working with stakeholders is critical CDAC 2009-2010

What is a “sustainable community”? • Sustainable development pattern = walkable, transit-oriented, mixed income and mixed use community Why? • maximize choices for residents and businesses • lower transportation costs (now a greater part of many family budgets than housing costs) • create energy savings (by reducing Vehicle Miles Traveled) • enhance access to employment and educational opportunities CDAC 2009-2010
