PEF: Organizational History • Founded in 2004 with the support of City and County School Boards • A community-based, nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of teaching and learning in our public schools. • Governed by a board of private business and community leaders with participation from both school division superintendents and school boards • Operated initially as a donor-advised fund within the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation. Became a 501(c) (3) organization in 2008.

PEF: Philanthropy Highlights Support of programs and initiatives that have potential for systemic impact and go beyond the scope of public resource funding. • After-school intervention programs for at-risk elementary school students at Friendship Court (city) and Mallside (county) • High school guidance and college advisory program • Odyssey 2025 for Math and Science – A summer academy for middle school students and teachers to explore innovative teaching strategies

PEF: Community Outreach Hosted renowned speakers for community engagement luncheons and appearances in schools. • Stephanie Sanford, Deputy DirectorBill & Melinda Gates Foundation • Dr. Robert Ballard, discoverer of the Titanic and founder of The Jason Project • Jim Davis, Garfield creator and founder of The Garfield Foundation (children’s literacy)
