  2. Your Production Company • Get into groups of the specified number. • Be sure to include people who are absent. • Come up with a name for you group/production company. • All names are fine, just no profanities or anything that might offend anyone. • Write the company name at the top of a paper, and then list everyone who is in that company. • The first group to give me their paper with an absent person’s name, gets them! • Give me your papers!

  3. What’s Your Job? • There are numerous jobs in the making of films, and in many cases, people may do multiple jobs. • Assign a job to a company member for your first film • These jobs are not set in stone, everyone will get a chance to be everything. • No matter your job title, you can and will do any and every job that your company needs you to do.

  4. …And Here They Are… • Director- This person is in charge of giving direction to the actual filming process. This person will get the overall say in how things are shot, and will be ultimately responsible for making sure their company’s vision is created. • Lead Writer- This person is in charge of the writing process. When writing and figuring out what your company wants to do, you will be the last word and will be ultimately responsible to making sure things move forward in a timely manner. • Editor in Chief- This person is in charge of the editing process. Once everything has been written and shot, this person will head up the editing process, get the final say on cuts, and be ultimately responsible for making sure everything gets put together correctly. • Key Grip- This person is in charge of the film equipment. This person will be the main person shooting, and will ultimately be responsible for making sure the equipment is kept well maintained and safe. • Set Designer- This person is in charge of the set construction and design. Responsibilities include scouting locations, and making sure everything is put back in it’s place once filming has ended.

  5. Silent Melodrama • You will be shooting you own silent film. For this film, it will be a melodrama, like many of D.W Griffith’s works. • It will be a 10-15 minute film. • The only sound you will be allowed will be music (no lyrics). • You can and will be using text cards to give your characters speech, and help the film story move along. • It must view as a melodrama, farcical and comedy elements should be kept to a extremely bare minimum. • The final product will be in black and white, I will show you how.
