  2. What is Virtual High School? • Asynchronous, teacher-facilitated, online-course program, where students take courses not offered in their schools • Fall & Spring Semesters • 15 weeks straight through-no vacations • H.S. and M.S. students

  3. Who is best suited for VHS? • Students must be nominated by their Team. • Motivated students- Want to learn and be challenged • Self-directed students- Do NOT need to be reminded to do homework, etc.

  4. Who is best suited for VHS? Cont’d • Conscientious students- Do all the assigned work to the best of their ability • Organized students- Keep their class work in binders, prepared to work with all materials • Students with good time management; devote 8-12 hours per week

  5. What is the rigor & time commitment? • High School Level Courses w/ HS Students • 8-12 hours per week; • 5 hours in school during p.5 Skills- • 2-4 homework/weekend • NEED TO BE GOOD AT TIME MANAGEMENT • CONSIDER AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

  6. Materials Needed • Binder with 15 tabs, labeled by week • All 4 documents on www.lmsvhs.weebly.com • Signed documents by parents and student • Weekly Checklist • Any materials needed for course work

  7. Where/When does VHS occur? • P. 5 Skills period every day, unless team meeting, make-up test/quiz, etc. • Notify me when cannot attend VHS • Report to my room-B332 • Will not have study/make-up day during p.5 • If I’m absent, stay on team and use computer; or go to library.

  8. Communication with Instructor • Private Thread your Netcourse Instructor with any questions, concerns, absences, etc. • Need to work with instructor online • I am the Site Coordinator, not your course instructor.

  9. Grading in VHS • NetCourse Instructor: grades your course work • Majority of your VHS grade. • Mrs. D.-grades organization with Binder checks, Midterm & Final Reflections and ILOs. • Grade does not count toward GPA. • If you fail or withdraw, cannot take another VHS course at LMS. • Only have 21 slots, so do not want to lose them due to “withdrawals”.

Must choose a course that accepts middle-schoolers.
