  2. Former Learning Center Students • Since 2007, 205 students have been supported in the transition from Learning Centers to their home or consortia schools • 2 transitioned to nonpublic settings • 15 withdrew from MCPS • 1 graduated and is currently attending Montgomery College

  3. Former Learning Center Students • 16 students who were originally served in a learning center and recommended for special education services in MCPS through district-wide or quad-cluster programs • 162 students are provided central office case management in their home or consortia schools for the 2009-2010 school year • 9 students receive school-based case management as a result of an IEP team decision based upon their progress and parental input

  4. April 2009 Recommendations • Support and training for co teaching • Follow up to Summer 2009 professional development • Differentiation • Social skills training • Opportunities for parent feedback • Job-embedded professional development • Review state assessment scores and course grades

  5. System-wide Professional Development Collaboration among the following offices: • Office of Curriculum and Instructional Programs • Office of Special Education and Student Services • Office of Organizational Development General and Special Education Coteaching Teams • Summers 2007, 2008, 2009: Core content area focus on English, Math, Social Studies and Science • Summer 2009: Inclusion of speech-language pathologists with coteaching teams • Summer 2009: Enhancement of secondary resource model • Summer 2010: Continued focus on coteaching and collaborative planning with speech-language pathologists

  6. Improving Instruction for Middle School Students with Disabilities Project Team • Speech-language pathologists and counselors trained to deliver social skills training • Professional Development for 500 paraeducators in November 2009 • Professional development activities in December 2009: • 90 high school staff trained • 135 middle school staff trained • Job embedded training developed in response to individual school needs • Mini-grants to support collaborative planning at the secondary level • Secondary resource room model refinements • IEP Parent Feedback Card

  7. Middle School Special Education Institute Project Team • Tilden Middle School • Implementation 2010-2011 • Project Team is focusing on: • Coteaching models • Differentiated instruction • Instructional technology • University partnership
