PURPOSE OF THE USI ACCOUNTING CIRCLE The USI Accounting Circle was formed for the purpose of providing a channel of communication between the University’s Department of Accounting and the Business Community. PURPOSE OF THE FACULTY INTERNSHIP PROGRAM  A joint University Business program directed toward seeing that University graduates meet the expectations of Business.  To provide meaningful, relevant work experience for a faculty member, which will enhance the faculty member’s classroom presentations.  To benefit the business community by providing access to the faculty member’s expertise.

  3. COST ACCOUNTING FACULTY INTERNSHIP Faculty Member: Brian L. McGuire (resume attached) Internship Desired: Summer, 2002 Accounting Internship General Structure: May 6, 2002 to June 7, 2002 (is flexible on schedule - could start on a part-time basis during April or May, and could end earlier than June 7, 2002; however, the internship cannot go beyond June 7, 2002 due to another obligation) Up to 40 hours per week Up to Five days per week/Eight hours per day (Weekends not an option) To work in an accounting information systems or cost accounting environment, including systems analysis and design, internal control evaluation, and/or activity-based costing. Compensation: Not a primary consideration of the internship Suggested pay rate in the range of $25-$30 per hour Employment status can be either as an employee or contract worker

COMPANY’S RESPONSIBILITIES  Brian should report directly to a senior level manager in the accounting or finance area.  Brian’s work schedule and compensation should be set.  Sufficient time must be allocated for training on any software needed to perform responsibilities. Brian should also be included, whenever appropriate, in any in-house training programs.  The purpose of this internship is to provide MEANINGFUL work experience for Brian and give the Company access to the faculty member’s knowledge. It is critical that both the company and the University have a positive experience.  Brian’s work should be reviewed soon after it is performed so that feedback is timely and instructive.
