  5. AB 2193 Law • Defines LTELs Any student who is enrolled is the 6-12 grade 6 or more in US Schools Same CELDT level for 2 or more consecutive years Score Far Below Basic or Below Basic on the CST English Language Arts Test

  6. AB 2193 Law Continued • Defines At Risk of Becoming LTELs Any student who is enrolled is the 5-11 grade 4 or more in US Schools Scores Intermediate or below on CELDT level Score in the fourth year Far Below Basic or Below Basic on the CST English Language Arts Test

  7. Services for ELs (LTEL) What are currently doing? • One period of ELD Daily • Full access to all core subjects • Monitoring of progress on assessment data • Instructional Norms – Walk-throughs • Instructional Coaches • ELD Teacher Symposiums – Training • Counselor monitoring and interventions

  8. Next Steps • Use new state definitions to generate complete data review • Learn more about their needs • Design teacher training and coaching to include specific strategies for meeting their needs • Prepare for new ELD Common Core Standards with LTELs in mind
