  3. What is it like there? there are many different types of deserts 1. Hot &Dry 2. Semiarid 3. Coastal 4.Cold Annual temperatures range from 20-25° C = (68 - 77 F). The extreme maximum ranges from 43.5-49° C = (110.3 - 120.2 F)

  4. Soil and Enviorment • Not weathered • Not much rain • Large rocks • Not many plants • Little organic organisms • Very dry

  5. Plants • Long roots that go deep in the ground to reach underground water. • spreading root system just below the surface to allow roots to catch water when it rained • Desert plants limit water loss through their leaf surface • Barrel Cactus Brittle Bush Chainfruit • Desert Ironwood Saguaro Cactus

  6. Animals • Desert animals are nocturnal • Get water from food. Don’t need to drink water • They do not have sweat glands. • desert animals have concentrated the body's fat in one place, such as a hump or tail

  7. Endangered species • The Ocelot- agriculture, urban development and roads. Center Filed a notice of intent to stop the killing. • The Peregrine Falcon- city development , DDT, human intrusion, and o breeding pairs

  8. Threat to Biome • Global warming is increasing the incidence of drought, which dries up water holes. • Higher temperatures may produce an increasing number of wildfires that alter desert landscapes • Off-road vehicles, when used irresponsibly, can cause irreparable damage to desert habitats.
