  1. Action research to promote ICT in teacher educationPart of EUN-wp 16case studies on innovative practices Dr. Sólveig Jakobsdóttir, KHÍ

  2. Study - goals • Identify key factors in the successful engagement with ICT, and explore those factors through case studies and interviews with a stratified sample of teachers in training and in post. • Make succesful experiences more visible and promote ICT within the university through concrete examples • Teach faculty to use technology (netmeeting) that can facilitate assistance and collaboration (also like a “carrot” to increase likelihood of on-the-spot participation).

  3. Study - method • Participants: Teacher educators at KHI were identified by departments heads and peers as practioners of different types ICT in their teaching. • Design: Action research model.

  4. Study – procedure • Teachers identified contacted through phone & e-mail and asked to participate in an online meeting (using Netmeeting). This strategy will be used for the following reasons: • Participantsasked permission to publish their descriptions under their name on a local web which will have a list of possibilities for use of ICT in teacher education and will be used to introduce such possibilities in different departments . And to have their description translated to be used in the EUN data base.

  5. Study - instruments • Instruments: (Interview) questions (Frontpage data gathering sheet linked to Access database) – where people are asked to tell a story – how they have been using ICT successfully in their teaching and work, assess benefits, problems, effects of those practices, and give advice to others. • See http://soljak.khi.is/soljak/utreynslakhi (Icelandic) and http://soljak.khi.is/soljak/ictteachered (English)
