Recycling Services • Wide range of conservation projects • Full service recycling program services • Customized to fit the types and volume of your recyclables • Our youth will set up and service recycling bins, as often as needed • Provide detailed records of recyclables collected. • Some of these services can be provided free of charge through a grant provided by the State Department of Conservation (Bottle Bill Grant)

  9. Recycling at...LA Dodgers Stadium LA Corps just recently partnered up with the LA Dodgers to recycle at all their home games. We have a special crew assigned to work grave yard shift at this location after completion of games.

  10. Recycling at…The Rose Bowl / LA Coliseum • Recycling services for all tailgaters before and during the USC & UCLA football games. • Using this small vehicle (top right) the LA Corps is able to drive through the crowds of tailgaters collecting masses of bottles and cans.

Recycling at… • Public and Private Schools • Service over 70 schools on a weekly basis. • From Palos Verdes Peninsula all the way up to the Santa Clarita Valley. • Often donate money back to these schools for their collection of beverage containers. • Golf Tournaments & Special Events • Ecology services for professional AT&T and Toshiba golf tournaments. • Crews recycle & record tonnage of CRV collected.

RACLA daily functions • Participants report for hookline and attendance review • Recycling crews depart from reporting site to 5 routes • Crews consist of up to 5 corpsmembers and 1 supervisor. • Every crew collects recyclables from 15-20 stop locations each day, averaging over 400 locations per week. • Crews report tonnage collected at every site. • After a daily route has been completed, all material is taken to our recycling center and sorted.

  13. Our Vehicles • We recently upgraded our recycling vehicles from Stake side trucks to Parcel Trucks, allowing us to collect a higher volume of materials each day. • Each of these trucks are equipped to handle heavy loads if necessary.

Private Sector Recycling • Project Background • In May 2006 the City of Los Angeles awarded the Los Angeles Conservation Corps (LACC) a contract • Provide collection and processing of source separated recyclable materials • -Newspaper • -Mixed paper & computer paper • -Cardboard • 65 pre-existing CRV-only accounts • Contract enabled LA Corps to add new materials free of charge

  15. LA Corps Recycling CRV Totals • RACLA has increased the total collection of CRV beverage containers every year. • Since it was first started RACLA has collected over 1,640,000 lbs. in CRV alone.

  16. Recycling at…Public Parks • LA Corps. serves parks through out Los Angeles. • We are currently partnered to recycle at over 50 public parks and parquettes from City of Redondo Beach and City of Torrance.

  19. Recycling - Collections • Currently, 163 businesses utilize Urban Corps’ recycling services. • Recycling’s 2009/10 goal is to grow this number to 200 businesses.

This increase may be attributed to the following reasons: • Addition of 6 high schools to our collection program • Enrolling large hospitals who have aggressive staff who seek and separate beverage containers from their waste stream • The addition of 25 new route customers • Implementing aggressive recycling efforts at Qualcomm Stadium, inside the Stadium and around the entrance gates

  24. STADIUM SERVICESQualcomm Stadium Recycling in action where large venues meet the goals of the state by diverting CRV containers from their waste stream:

  25. 11% growth in beverage containers collected from the previous year at Qualcomm Stadium • For 2009, Stadium Services intends to implement a more aggressive process of sorting all of the material

  26. STADIUM SERVICESPETCO Park • Urban Corps provided over 21,200 fee for service corpsmember hours towards the bowl pick of PETCO Park. • Last year, PETCO Park reduced its waste costs by $15,000.

  27. In 2007, San Diego EarthWorks awarded both Qualcomm Stadium and PETCO Park the Director’s Recycling Award for its recycling efforts. The Director’s Recycling Award is the City of San Diego’s second highest recycling award given to companies for their waste reduction and diversion efforts. Urban Corps is proud to be of assistance in helping these two venues receive the recognition of this award.
