  1. Competitive Summer Season Week of June 3 U9/U10 – 1v1 Defending

  2. When you get there • Session will be Play (until you have 8 players) – 11+ Warm-up (8 minutes) – Work (35 minutes) – Play (8 minutes) • Take attendance • Play - Once you have enough to play to groups of 3v3 you should get two games going • 11+ should only take about 8 minutes – on the shoulder contact it should be as if players are giving each other high five with their shoulders then landing both feet and soft meaning that knees should give as players hit the ground to absorb impact • Having trouble with particular players use names to address them • Demo what you want!

  3. 11+ - http://f-marc.com/11plus/ To see the 11+ in action go to: http://f-marc.com/11plus/exercises/

  4. Key • Coach • Players • Players w/ball • Cones • Balls • Pugg • Goal

  5. Play – Most to Score Split the players into two teams Play 3v3 to start and play no larger then 4v4 Have a pile of balls near each end line when you run out of balls go collect Score on goal Team that has the most players score wins KEYS Look for opportunities to get forward Look for opportunities to get into the attack Players should adjust team to put non-scorers in advanced positions Attack and defend as a team BE MOBILE 35 yds. 25 yds.

  6. Activity 1 – Mirror and Escape Pair players up Play begins when defender cone that would make them close to touch tight Start without ball and then add a ball Defender just has to beat the attacker to the line when no ball Once ball is introduced defender can’t let attacker dribble over line but can’t tackle – defending counts as getting in the way – can the force the attacker to go backwards and side to side Bad touch can take the ball KEYS Anticipation Read body language not fakes when core goes you go Footwork Drop step Drop step and run PATIENCE

  7. Activity 2 – 1v1 to cones Pair players up Play 1v1 to cone NO TACKLING Play begins with pass from teammate After a brief round switch who is playing who Move winners up and losers down – Ladder game KEYS Move your feet – use footwork taught in last activity NO stabbing, swinging widely, or selling out Body position - side on and athletic

  8. Activity 3 – 1v1 to Goal Two teams – one attacks big goal one attacks cones GKs in each goal Game begins with team attacking big goal passing to attacker As ball travels defender gets on the field to close ground KEYS Effort is number 1 priority if effort is not sufficient pull player out and have them watch until the are ready to give effort CLOSE ground quickly to get pressure on the ball DON’T Sell out quick but smart

  9. Activity 4 - Play – Connected front to back You will notice that backs are hesitant to be connected with their group and will hang back in their own half Easy visual for players is if ball is in the box of the goal they are attacking they need to be at least at the half way line KEYS Engagement Do players know where the ball is Is GK connected – they are part of being connected and especially at U9 if connected help eliminate some of the counters if they are acting like a sweeper/keeper

  10. Play – Connected Side to Side You will notice backs or wide mids may stay really spread out side to side no matter if the team is attacking or defending The best is if we can get the whole team to shrink around the ball when they are defending and Expand when they are attacking KEYS Engagement Do players know where the ball is Start with groups of players then try to get the whole team on the same page For example get the backs to be connected side to side and really squeeze to the side of the ball Get the mids/Forwards to squeeze to the side of the ball Frequently in this age group the pair of two tend to get spread out to wide side to side

  11. Thanks Have fun, be detailed, be demanding!
