  2. General Precautions • FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN BY THE TEACHER! (most of the answers on the safety quiz involve telling your teacher when a mishap occurs) • NO HORSEPLAY • NEVER EAT OR DRINK WHILE EXPERIMENTING • KEEP YOUR WORK AREA CLEAN AND UNCLUTTERED

  3. Dress Code • Wear safety goggles for the entire experiment if instructed to wear goggles. • Wear an apron to protect your clothes when using chemicals or items that will stain. • Gloves are provided when needed. • Tie back long hair and dangling sleeves. • Take off loose and long jewelry. • Wear closed shoes.

  4. First Aid • Report all accidents- big or small to the teacher. • Know where the safety shower, eye wash station, and fire blanket are located. • Know where the fire exit is located.

  5. Chemical Safety • Never put your face near the opening of a container that holds a chemical. • Never touch, taste or smell anything unless instructed by the teacher. • When pouring, pour over the sink. • Use care when working with acids and bases. • When mixing acids with water, pour acid into the water slowly. • Ask the teacher about how to dispose of waste.

  6. Using Glassware Safely • If glassware is chipped or cracked, notify the teacher. • If you break glass, notify the teacher and do not pick up the broken pieces. • Glass is cheap- Do not risk cutting yourself.

  7. Sharp Instruments • Handle sharp instruments with care. • When cutting, always cut away from your body.
