  2. Dangerous Mountains What’s that? It’s a mountain shooting out ash! It’s a volcano! A volcano is a mountain full of hot magma. Scientists think heat puts pressure on rocks forming magma. Ninety percent of volcanoes are on the ring of fire. The Ring of Fire is in the Pacific ocean. It is on a lot of tectonic plates. Its hot around here! What’s that? Its lava coming our way!

  3. Red Hot Disaster What’s that orange stuff coming out from that volcano? Its lava! Magma, when it comes out of the volcano it is called lava. Magma is liquid hot rock. When lava cools it turns to rock. The color is reddish to orange because it is extremely hot. There is two different types of lava. There is basaltic lava and andesitic lava. That’s all the things about lava that I learned.

  4. Exploding Mountains What’s shaking the ground? Its a volcano! Lava is coming for us! When a volcano erupts, a huge cloud of ash is thrown up into the sky. When a volcano erupts , it can throw rock thousands of feet in to the air. Lava can travel ten miles in one minute. That’s fast! That means a volcano can shoot lava six hundred miles per hour. Exploding volcanoes can cause avalanches. Mountains can collapse when a volcano erupts. That’s what happens a volcano erupts.

  5. Mountain Builder I’m going to tell you about how a volcano builds a mountain. Some volcanoes build up under the sea and some volcanoes build up on land. Lava hardens up on the sides of a volcano after an eruption. The lava builds up and makes a mountain. It takes a long time to build a mountain. That’s how a volcano builds a mountain.

  6. Mountain Disaster Now I will tell how a volcano changes the Earth’s surface. They can create mudslides, avalanches , rock falls, earthquakes, tsunamis ,and makes rock called pumice. Avalanches can destroy the land by destroying buildings covering the land ,towns, and trees. Earthquakes can destroy the land by destroying buildings and can create tsunamis. Tsunamis can destroy the land by their waves. That’s what changes a volcano can do the Earths surface.

  7. Destructive and Constructive Mountains Now I’ll will talk about how volcanoes build the Earth and how they destroy the Earth. They can make new soil for new plants. It can destroy buildings. It can destroy anything in its path. That’s how a volcanoes build the land and how they destroy the land.

  8. Glossary Constructive- to build Destructive- to destroy Pumice- a type of volcanic rock Magma- hot liquid rock
