  1. eAdvisor at ASU Aka: Critical Tracking/Critical Requirements Presented By: Maggie Tolan, Asst. Vice Provost University Academic Success & Transfer Programs

  2. What is eAdvisor? • An advising/enrollment management system that monitors students’ progress towards their selected degrees. • The system informs students what classes they need to graduate, when they need to take them, and how to find alternatives to their current major that may better fit their talents and interests

  3. Who does “eAdvisor” apply to? • Anyone following the 2007-2008 catalog must adhere to eAdvisor/Critical Requirements*. • Includes: • All admitted freshmen • Students attending any public Arizona community college or university whose initial enrollment is summer 2007 and forward • Any student wishing to “up their catalog” to the 2007-2008 catalog • Students being readmitted to ASU, who are not eligible for continuous enrollment under a previous catalog. • *Exception: eAdvisor/Critical Requirements will not apply to 07-08 out-of-state transfer students (greater than 24 credit hours) through the completion of their admitted ASU program of study.

  4. What are the components of “eAdvisor” • Critical Requirements: • Courses, milestones, GPAs that are determined by the colleges to measure ‘success” in that major • Critical requirements are required in the first 4 semesters, but may continue throughout the entire 8 semesters depending on the major • Major Map/Road Map: • 8 semester display of major degree requirements, showing course sequence, critical requirements, milestones, etc. http://www.asu.edu/programs/majormaps/

  5. Where can you find eAdvisor roadmaps?http://www.asu.edu/programs/majormaps/

  6. What happens if a student gets “off track”? • Students will be required to meet with an advisor if they are determined to be “off track” • Intervention strategies will be provided to help make the student successful in their major or to guide them towards resources to investigate new majors • Students can only be “off track” for two consecutive semesters (does not include winter & summer sessions)– however this does not infer that the student is not in good academic standing overall. Student will be required to change their major.

  7. Questions Community Colleges might ask: • So tell me again, which of my students does this affect? • Any CC student who is following the 07-08 catalog, or later. It does not affect any current CC students under older catalog years. • Won’t our students be immediately “off track” because we don’t offer some of the courses listed in the first 4 semesters of the roadmaps?” • No. Transfer students will be placed into an appropriate critical tracking term based on a transcript analysis – so they will all start “on track”. Same process that currently exists for transfer students.

  8. Questions Community Colleges might ask: • How can ASU put upper division courses in the first 4 semesters of their roadmaps? Doesn’t that violate transfer articulation agreements? • Remember, eAdvisor is about predicting success in the selected major – and for indigenous ASU students, colleges want to help students decide earlier about suitability and interest in that major. For transfer students, all transfer pathways are honored, and students will be placed into the critical tracking term based on their completed courses. eAdvisor is not a new curriculum, but is more about sequencing of courses. • Will ASU still do checksheets? • Yes, but a new version will be introduced with the 08-09 academic year. For now, old checksheets are still posted on ASU’s website, and for the current year 07-08, you should use the eAdvisor road maps.

  9. Questions Yet Unanswered for Transfer Students: • Applicability of critical tracking semester GPA requirements • What happens if a college/major requires a grade of “B-” or better in a course • Transfer admission requirements for students applying to ASU in Fall 2008 or later

  10. Other ASU updates of interest: • New Transfer Admissions Office – we are currently staffing up a new office within Undergraduate Admissions, which will solely focus on/ process incoming transfer applications. Quicker service! • New Degree Shopping website - https://webapp.asu.edu/eadvisor/. Students can search 250+ majors at ASU, compare/contrast, and apply directly from this website. • PeopleSoft - With the implementation of PeopleSoft at ASU (replacing our SIS system), all admitted students will be assigned a default catalog year which will be the year they are admitted to ASU. In the past, SIS left this field blank. There is no impact from this change since the system never knew what catalog year the student was following until they processed their declaration of graduation (DOG). The same holds true here – while they are assigned a default one now, they will pick their desired catalog year when they file their DOG with their advisor. • Transfer Centers – not-yet-admitted transfer students can now meet with a transfer advisor on each of our 4 ASU campuses. To schedule an appointment with a transfer advisor, please consult: http://www.asu.edu/transfer.
