2. Introduction HOME With so much public interest generated by the discovery of the HMAS Sydney, the Government has discovered they need to create an e-library of shipwrecks around the world. Due to the amazing number of shipwrecks in the world the task seems impossible - this is where you come in. You have been chosen to find out about specific wrecks, present your findings in a talking book and rank the wrecks in order of interest to the public. Let's get started. Task HOME • You have been chosen to contribute to this e-library by researching one shipwreck and then, together with your team, rating these shipwrecks as to the most interesting to the general public. • Firstly, construct a mindmap on what you already know about shipwrecks. • Research your shipwreck to determine the where, when, why, who and how. • Create a talking book incorporating the information using PowerPoint. • Add the factual information about your shipwreck to a wiki • Rank your shipwreck on public interest according to specific criteria. • Construct a second mindmap to reflect your learning. • Click on the Process link below. 4. HOME Process • Step 1: Create your mindmap using E Draw • Step 2: The class will be divided into groups of 3 and allocated a shipwreck to research • Step 3: Each group will assign it’s members one of the following roles: • MASTER – this is the crew captain, responsible for keeping the crew on course for the time in order to meet deadlines and assign individual tasks. • BOATSWAIN – This is the crew record-keeper, responsible for the safety and maintenance of the groups log or records. The Boatswain needs to be someone who is organised. • MARINER – The crewmember responsible for carrying out the Master’s orders • and turning over their discoveries to the Boatswain for safekeeping. • Step 4: The Master will direct their crew to their shipwreck information on the internet, using links from the Resource page. The Master will assign the crew to locate the following list of facts about the crew’s shipwreck: • The purpose of the journey? • When and where did the ship leave on it’s journey? • Where was the ship wrecked? • Click on the Process (cont’d) link below. 5. Step 4 (continued): What caused this shipwreck? How many perished and how many survived? What other unique facts did you learn about this shipwreck? Step 5: The Master will direct the crew on entering information and original pictures into a PowerPoint presentation. When all information, pictures and maps are entered, the Master will direct the crew on adding the voice over. (HINT: Check the rubric in evaluation to ensure all necessary information is included) Step 6: The Boatswain will present all information collected on the shipwreck and present it to the crew for posting to the shipwreck wiki. http://shipwreckswa.pbwiki.com/ Step 7: The Master will assemble the crew to set criteria by which shipwrecks can be ranked. The crew will rank their shipwreck according to the criteria they have devised. Step 8: All crew will construct a second mindmap on shipwrecks using E Draw to reflect learning. Step 9: All crew will print off and complete a self evaluation using the rubric in evaluation. 7. Conclusion HOME Congratulations! You have worked closely with your crew to add factual information to a wiki and to create an excellent talking book.
