How do I know where to look? • Start by checking you local city/state website to see if they list any services. • Most news broadcasters websites will have an employment section where jobs are posted from around the news coverage area. • Sites like GlassDoor.com • us.jobs • monster.com • can all help a person get job listing but be aware. Not every single job will be local.

3. Where do I go on a site? • Step 1: Find the site you wish to use. • Step 2a: if they have a search field use that, enter job keywords, city, state and ZIP.(2A) • Step 2b: If there is no search bar click on Jobs and proceed from there. • Step 3: Find a job in the results given that interest you. • Step 4: Click apply and attach your resume and proceed to fill out the form(s). • **MOST APPLICATIONS ARE HOSTED DIRECTLY OFF THE EMPLOYER’S WEBSITE. SO YOU MAY LEAVE THE SITE YOU ARE ON AFTER CLICKING APPLY.**

What about Specialty Jobs? • A specialty job site is for Specific jobs with in an industry or a specific industry in itself. • For example: You would need to look for a specialty site if you wanted to do something along the lines of Video Production, or Global Account Managers for a phone company.

Why should I apply online instead of in person. • Most jobs nowadays don’t always have a paper application that you can fill out. • Online applications are easier to sort out the ones that do not qualify. • Online applications make it so the employer can read everything, where as handwritten may be an issue with some people. • Convenience—Don’t have to leave your house to apply for a job. • Most applications can have a decision in a matter of days or a couple weeks. Whereas paper copies of an application can get lost or skipped over. • Up to Date job listings.—You don’t have to run around town every day to see if a job position has opened up.

6. Questions • I want to work for a specific company. How do I find just the jobs from them? • --On the website for that company, there might be an employment section. This will list all positions available within that company. Some are not even listed on job sites. • 2 Examples follow:

Advantages over newspapers and other sources for job seekers? • Newspaper ads cost up to $500+ per advertisement and that cost is each time it shows up in the newspaper. • Online is free on some sites, and only $50+ on the majority of posting sites. • Simple description-have to call or go online anyways to get more information • More detailed information on what the employer requires/wants. • Have to call or go to a place for an application. • Direct application form.

Social media and job hunting? • In the recent years since job hunting online became popular, Now social media is taking over and helping to provide a NETWORK of people who can share job postings, recommend a job, or even connect job seekers with employers. • Some of these sites include: FACEBOOK, TWITTER, LinkedIn, DIGGIT, and GeekBeat.tv job forums.
