  2. What is the Career Pathways Program? Career Pathways is a scope and sequence of academic and technical courses that prepare students for promising careers based on their unique interests and abilities. How does it work? By helping elementary and middle school students learn about themselves and careers and by allowing high school students to take courses in one of four “Career Clusters”.   33. Proposal Summary Workforce Development System Gap Analysis for Northeastern Pennsylvania School systems need to continue working to improve the basic math and reading skills of students. Soft skills and career awareness must be incorporated into the education process. Business and industry must become more involved with career awareness for all students.   35. Goal Our goal is to engage and attach business with education and infuse career awareness, career pathways and financial literacy into the educational system in Northeast Pennsylvania.   36. Northeast Pennsylvania Business Education Workforce Partnership Transformation Initiative 1. Establish up to 3 new Business Education Partnerships. The Business Education Models pull from the experience of the Berks, Greater Hazelton and Lehigh Valley Business Education Partnerships who successfully coordinate the resources of the business community in partnership with the education community with respect to career awareness, talent and workforce development to improve the pipeline of workers needed in business and industry. Under the Existing partnerships’ expertise,up to three new business education partnerships will be Replicated. 2.Staff the Business Education Partnerships with Career and Workforce Coordinators. To expand the development of business education partnerships in the Northeast, it is imperative thatCareer and Workforce Coordinators be hired. Three part- time Coordinators will assist the existing partnerships in strategic planning and coordinating partners and resources of the business and educational community and up to three full-time Coordinators, one for each new partnership, working with business, education and community leaders, serving as intermediaries, to lead, establish and design the structure of new business education partnerships.   37. Northeast Pennsylvania Business Education Workforce Partnership Transformation Initiative 3.Replicate the successful PA CareerLinking Academy Career Awareness Model. This innovativecareer exploration programtargeted for students in grades 10-12 is aligned to the PA Department of Education’s Academic Standards for Career Education and Work, adheres to federal, state, and local career education initiatives and isaligned with high school educational requirements for use as a senior graduation project. The Academy provides students with a structured program where they explore career interests and become linked to the world of work and education. The CareerLinking Academy Model was awarded a National Pinnacle Award for innovativeness from the National Society for Human Resource Management, our partners in this Model.   38. 4. Replicate the successful Career Pathways Education Career Awareness program. This comprehensive,educational career awareness programprepares a student for a successful career, based on interests and abilities, provides ascope and sequence of academic and technical coursesin determining educational pathways for students. Students follow a rigorous coherent program of studies focused on career pathways to increase mathematics, science, communication, problem- solving and technical skills, have access to career, technical studies and academic studies, provides a career-based structured system of study. This program also providesintegrated instruction for studentsbased on collaboration of academic, vocational and college educators, engages students in learning, and uses data to analyze individual student achievement, thereby setting higher expectations for all students.   39. 5. Provide a comprehensive, web-based career resource tool called Career Cruising. Career Cruising is an innovative,web-based career resource tool designed for all ages, but targeted to middle and high school students to help them find the right career, explore career options, or plan future education and training. With exceptional assessment tools for students, teachers, guidance counselors and parents, Career Cruising provides detailedoccupation profiles, comprehensive post-secondary education information, careerinterest surveys, occupational video streaming and much more. This interactive resource, accessible both at school and home, allowsstudents to move seamlessly through the career exploration and planning processwhile, at the same time, educators have access to real-time information and statistics necessary to track students’ progress and achievement.
