  1. Recent status and discussions with KEK engineers T. Tsuboyama (KEK) 8 April 2009

  2. Recent status • As you learned in the March Belle upgrade meeting, KEKB people is now seriously thinking about the low-emittance concept. • Everything is completely different from the high-emittance contept: positions of final-focus magnets, beam pipe design, HOM heating by beam, synchrotron radiation, background estimation. • It may take 3-6 months before design is fixed. • We should design our detector

  3. An example – Beam pipe • Present Belle • LER and HER beam pipes cross at 3 m from the IP position. • Super conducting final focus magnets (QCS) have one big bore. The vacuum tubes go in the bore. • IR in the low-emittance option • QCS magnets have individual bores for LER and HER. • LER and HER beam pipes cross at 40 cm from the IP position. • Mechanically, this is more difficult. Marc Rosen (The pixel part: DEPFET group) Kanazawa

  4. Engineers in KEK Physics Department • We have several engineers in KEK physics department, who have strong interests in the Belle construction. • Kohriki and Yamaoka are very talented engineers. • We started meetings with them. • So far, we ask them to give us ideas of detector structures from engineering view point.

  5. KEK engineering center • Two years before, they told us they were busy in preparing J-PARC and had no time for Belle upgrade. • Recently, KEK Belle members and M. Iwasaki (Tokyo U.) visited the KEK engineering center. • The division head told that he is positive in doing Belle upgrade. • Several engineers have worked in the Belle SVD construction. Therefore, we can expect they will join the Belle design. • Before the KEKB design is fixed, they will help us in thinking the SVD structure, calculation and simulations. • In case of SVD, it is possible for us to take the support structure and ladder mounting. • Ladder assembly can not be done in KEK. We do not have automatic bonding machines.

  6. HPK • As we have no news recently, I made a phone-call to HPK, and asked if we have an meeting. • The did not refused. Though, the meeting date is not fixed.

  7. SVD operation • I am looking for people who can help the SVD operation or on-call shifts.
