What is Twitter? • Twitter is an online social networking and microblogging service that enables users to send and read text-based messages of up to 140 characters, known as "tweets". • Twitter has managed to find a niche that Facebook and other social media sites couldn’t capitalize on and have turned this small niche into an incredibly successful business.

  4. What is Twitter? • Twitter was created in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey. • The service rapidly gained worldwide popularity, with over 500 million registered users as of 2012, generating over 340 million tweets daily and handling over 1.6 billion search queries per day. • Twitter is now one of the ten most visited websites on the Internet

What is Twitter? • It has been described as "the SMS of the Internet.” • Unregistered users can read tweets, while registered users can post tweets through the website interface, SMS, or a range of apps for mobile devices. • Twitter Inc. is based in San Francisco, with additional servers and offices in New York City, Boston, and San Antonio.

  6. Evolution of the Twitter Logo 2006-2010 2010-2012 2012- Present

  7. This is the first logo that Twitter used from 2006 to 2010. • This simple logo was meant to show the simplicity of the company

  8. This is the 2nd logo that Twitter used from 2010 to 2012. • Twitter wanted something that would symbolize “tweets” so they created this bird. • The bird’s quick and speedy look symbolized the speed and simplicity of what makes Twitter so special.

  9. In 2012 Twitter updated its logo once more. • Twitter has become so popular worldwide that people now know that this logo represents the company. • Twitter changed the color of the bird to a darker blue to make it more pleasing to a wider audience.

Why Use Twitter • So why do so many people use Twitter today? • Twitter is used for basically every area of life for live updates and information on things like: • News, business, politics, education, restaurants, athletes, celebrities, sports teams, friends, family, movies, television, product reviews, interesting facts, photography, video, etc.

  11. Why Use Twitter? • Basically you get the idea that Twitter is used by everyone, everywhere. • However there are three main areas that you can and should use Twitter in your life… • Personal Life • Professional and Business Life • Educational Life

Personal Use • Share your experiences with friends and family. • What you are doing and where you are going. • Photos and video of these experiences. • Have conversations with them. • Follow and get up to date live information about news, weather, sports, celebrities, politicians, businesses, restaurants, etc. all in once place on your computer, smartphone, and tablets.

Professional and Business • Connect with customers and clients. • Easy to find your customers because they use Twitter too. • Sell the Brand • Twitter is a free marketing tool to get the name of a the business and what you sell or offer out into the world. • Send mass updates to followers to inform about products, services, and promotions. • Let customers know what’s happing as it’s happening.

Professional and Business • Instant customer feedback • Once connected to customers you can get feedback on what they think of your products and services and how you can improve them. • Spy on competition • By just using the Twitter search. You can read both about what the competition is saying and what their customers are. If someone has a bad experience with a competitor you can contact that customer and try and win them over. • The possibilities with customers to find out more about them, give them information is endless. And even better its all FREE!

Educational • Teachers can use Twitter to communicate to students. • Let students know about any news, cancelled class, and ask and answer questions instantly. • Instant feedback from students • For things like discussions, lectures, class issues, after exams, a teachers performance, etc. • Gather real world instantaneous data • Things like politics, news, weather, opinions, and interesting facts.
