  2. 01 • Time: High School classes start at 7:15 and ends at 2:30. • High school classes require that you have developed diligent study habits and time management skills. • Classification (grade level) is based on credits, not years. • You earn .5 credits for each class, each semester. If you fail one class in a semester, you do not receive credit. You will have to make up any loss credits in order to graduate. • The State of Texas and SISD require that you graduate on the Foundations graduation plan or Foundations + Endorsements.   13. Distinguished Level of Achievement

  14. Distinguished Level of Achievement – 26.0 (and Endorsement) Requirements beyond Endorsement: • 4.0 Math credits must include Algebra II • 4.0 Science credits must include and advanced science • Complete requirements for at least one Endorsement Important: A student in the top 10% of their class must have earned the Distinguished Level of Achievement to be eligible for automatic admission to a Texas public college or university.

  15. 13 * Grade Point Average Your GPA determines your class rank which is important information that colleges look at when you apply. 2.0 3.0 1.0 4.0 Honors and Advanced placement classes are available and earn more grade points than Academic on level classes. Talk to your counselor/parents if you are interested in Pre-AP courses.

  16. 12 * STARR/EOC English: I, II Mathematics: Algebra I Science: Biology Social Studies: US History “ In addition to credit requirements and attendance, you must pass 5 end of course tests in order to graduate.

  17. Additional Graduation Requirements

  18. *HEALTH • If you took Health in Middle School and passed the class, you received the credit (.5) and will not need to repeat it in high school. • SISD requires Health for graduation • Health Science is a full year CTE elective course that counts for Health credit.

  19. *FINE ARTS Dance I, Jazz/Symphonic Band, Theatre Arts, Tech Theatre, Art and Choir. Must complete 1.0 credit for graduation. Art in Middle School does not count as high school credit, however Advanced Art will count.

  20. 10 * Speech (Professional Communications) • You will receive credit upon successful completion of the 8th grade Exploring Careers and Professional Communications course and will not be required to take it again in high school.

  21. 06 * Foreign Language You must complete two years of the same language. (French & Spanish) Spanish for Spanish Speakers counts for 2 credits whether taken in middle school or at the high school. “ If you started foreign in 8th grade, you may complete the second year in 9th grade. If you have not started, wait until the 10th gr. *If you are planning on attending CWHS, French is not offered there. .

  22. 18 * Athletics ATHLETICS: If you want to play a sport, first be sure that you already play that sport in middle school or a league. Prepare to get a physical done for the next school year. If you sign up for athletics and do not make the team, you will be put into a P.E. class.

  23. 07 JROTC ROTC : You do not need to join the Armed forces. It teaches you leadership, citizenship, team building, patriotism.

Sample Schedule Example Schedule: Semester 1 Semester 2 English English Math Math Biology Biology World Geography World Geography PE/Athletics elective PE/Athletics elective Fine Arts elective Fine Arts elective CTE elective CTE elective 11 • Your schedule will contain the 4 core subjects • 3 elective credits are left for you to choose what you want. One elective credit choice will be a PE course which includes Athletics. Your second choice should be a fine arts course or your second year of foreign language if applicable. Your final elective choice will be a CTE course that follows your Career pathway or Vocation. • Refer to your course selection sheet for your possible elective choices

  25. Selecting your third elective! Use the back of your course selection sheet to find a career pathway course. (Principles classes should be taken first) You can choose either a full year elective or two semester courses Example: Your career pathway is Pre-Med Studies you can choose Principles of Health Science Or 1) Med Terminology & 2) Lifetime Nutrition & Wellness DO NOT CHOOSE BOTH!! REMEMBER YOU HAVE 7 CLASSES.

  26. 17 SIGNATURES WE NEED YOUR JOHN HANCOCK! Get all appropriate signatures and turn in to your Exploring Careers teacher. Counselors will be visiting your campus to assist students with online course submission. Signatures are no longer required for pre-apclasses, however it is strongly suggested that students get recommendations from current teachers

  33. 25 * Application Process & Criteria for Admission If you are interested in Wunsche, it is time to start planning. Here’s what you need to do: • Pick electives that are introductory courses for the Career Pathways offered at Wunsche. Look at the Career Pathways in the Achieve Texas Program of Studies and plan your course carefully. 01. 02. 03. 04. Keep your grades up! You must pass all 9th grade core academic classes and meet eligibility to be promoted to 10th grade in August Think about your foreign language: Wunsche offers only Spanish

  34. 26 * Application Process & Criteria for Admission If you are interested in Wunsche, it is time to start planning. Here’s what you need to do: • You must be enrolled in Dekaney, Spring, or Westfield HS during your 9th grade year. 01. 03. Apply to Wunsche during the application period October 1-31

Things to Remember: • It is recommended that if you are in band or sports in middle school, we encourage you to sign up and participate in high school • Physicals are needed for all athletics sports • Students are required to select alternates • Get all appropriate signatures • Turn in complete form to Exploring Careers teacher
