In your house : -Don’t use the drier. -Wash your clothes with cold water. -Take mainly cool showers Replace any incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs. -Use the microwave. -Turn off your lights. -Regulate your home temperature. -Clean or replace air filters. -Lower the thermostat on your water heater to 120 degrees. -Set refrigerator temperature. -Use dishwashers instead of washing dishes by hand. -Turn off the faucet while brushing your teeth. -Reduce water in your toilet tank. -Use a low flow showerhead and faucet aerators. -Reverse indoor ceiling fans. -Buy used furniture -Unplug your electronics & MANY MORE!

IN YOUR GARDEN: -Use perennial vegetables instead of annuals. -Plant edibles including trees, vines, bushes, mushrooms, and ground-covers, to reduce your carbon footprint and have a “farmer’s market at home”. -Avoid using leaf blowers. -Leave grass clippings on the yard. -Use recycled woodchips. -Plant marigolds to ward off pests. -Water grass early in the morning -Borrow seldomly used items. -Put leaves in a compost heap. -Install water barrels to collect rain water from troughs.

  4. IN YOUR OFFICE: -Reduce the need to copy and print. When you need to, copy and print on both sides of the paper. -Reuse items like envelopes, folders, and paper clips. -Set up a bulletin board for memos. -Use recycled paper. -Use soy based ink. -Use a ceramic coffee mug. -Turn off power bars and lights at the end of the day. -Consider flexible work schedules or telecommuting. -Switch from paper towels in restrooms to continuous cloth towels.

  5. Getting Places: -Live where you work. Consider reducing the number of trips you take by habit. -Car pooling. -Use your bike, feet, or mass transportation. -Consider buying a Hybrid vehicle. -Purchase radial tires. -Drive during non-peak hours. -Know when to turn the car off.

  6. DIET: -Decrease your meat consumption. -Buy local products. -Buy food from the bulk bins at your local health food store. -Be particular about the fish you eat. -Consider buying vegetarian cookbooks.
