  3. Background • The Learning and Teaching Committee (LTC) decided in September 2005 to allocate a total of $6M to support large-scale faculty-wide /cross-department L&T development projects for the 2005-08 triennium 1 April 2006

  4. Use of the funding • System level improvement of the learning environment and students’ learning experiences • With clear and direct impact on student learning outcomes • Collaboration among faculties /departments is greatly encouraged 1 April 2006

  5. The Project • Initiated by Associate Dean (Teaching) and endorsed by Dean FCLU, a project team was established to investigate: • The impact of outcome-based curriculum on student learning outcomes • A funding of HK$870K for 2 years was secured 1 April 2006

  7. Project Aim • Examine the impact of Outcome-Based Curriculum (OBC) on engineering /surveying education • Study the impact of OBC on the learning outcomes of Faculty of Construction and Land Use (FCLU) students 1 April 2006

Research Objectives • To critically review the concepts of OBC; • To identify the corresponding strategies adopted by the four Departments within FCLU in implementing OBC; • To investigate, if any, changes in learning and teaching culture in implementing OBC; • To explore the impact of OBC on organizational and education policies and practices; • To study the impact of OBC on student learning outcomes in FCLU programme; • To develop a best practice mechanism in implementing OBC. 1 April 2006

  12. The Way Forward • The proposed study is probably the first ever Faculty-Wide /Cross-Department L&T Development Project in FCLU. • We aim to develop a best practice OBC model for FCLU • Your cooperation and active participation will be instrumental to the success of the project. 1 April 2006
