  1. "If you need anything, let us know, and we'll teach you how to live without it."

  2. Romans 5:1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

  3. 3 And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

  4. Job 42:10-17: And the Lord restored the fortunes of Job, when he had prayed for his friends. And the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before. Then came to him [Job] all his brothers and sisters and all who had known him before, and ate bread with him in his house. And they showed him sympathy and

  5. comforted him for all the evil that the Lord had brought upon him. And each of them gave him a piece of money and a ring of gold. And the Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning. And he had 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 yoke of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys. He had also seven sons

  6. and three daughters. And he called the name of the first daughter Jemimah, and the name of the second Keziah, and the name of the third Keren-happuch. And in all the land there were no women so beautiful as Job's daughters. And their father gave them an inheritance among their brothers.

  7. And after this Job lived 140 years, and saw his sons, and his sons' sons, four generations. And Job died, an old man, and full of days.

  8. UNDERSTANDING REALITY

  9. UNDERSTANDING REALITY • HOPE IN GOD ALONE

  10. UNDERSTANDING REALITY • HOPE IN GOD ALONE • Everything without Jesus amounts to nothing.

  11. "I now know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted."

  12. Thomas Merton said, "The truth that many people never understand until it is too late is that the more you try to avoid suffering, the more you suffer, because smaller things begin to torture you in proportion to your fear of being hurt."

  13. What is the one thing in your life that if God were to take it away, you would feel as if life was not worth living?

  14. 1 Corinthians 15:55 “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

  15. 58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

  16. UNDERSTANDING REALITY • HOPE IN GOD ALONE • CONFRONTED BY THE GOSPEL • IMPROVEMENT BY AFFLICTION

  17. God will use pain to make us cry 'Uncle' so that we cry 'Father!

  18. The peace that transcends all understanding comes from Jesus alone.

  19. UNDERSTANDING REALITY • HOPE IN GOD ALONE • CONFRONTED BY THE GOSPEL • IMPROVEMENT BY AFFLICTION • BROKENESS PRECEDES USEFULNESS • GOD MAKES CROOKED THINGS STRAIGHT

  20. HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL!

  21. HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL! 2 COR. 4:16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far

  22. outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
