Behaviour and safety of pupils • “Pupils continue to behave well and have positive attitudes to school”. • “The more structured approach to playtimes……means that pupils feel safer” • “The school has provided effective training for lunchtime supervisors and this has had positive outcomes” • “..risk assessments for the school building, site and out of school activities undertaken”. • “Safeguarding training has been implemented” • HMI Lead inspector : April 2012

  3. Play Ground Leaders • “We discussed in groups all the features of being a good Play Leader, these include giving instructions, responsibility, safety, opportunities and enjoyment. After discussions we presented our work to the group.” Play Ground Leaders

  4. Parent Survey on Behaviour • 93% of parents stated that their children feel safe in the playground • 89% of parents stated that their children enjoy break and lunchtime play • 93% of parents stated that their children know who to tell if they are being bullied

  5. The quality of teaching • “..lessons are now more effectively involving pupils in their own learning rather than being teacher led”. • “There is a better balance between teachers explaining the purpose of the lesson and pupils working on given tasks”. • “.. The planning of activities in lessons for different ability groups has improved”. • “ staff work hard on written comments for pupils about how to improve their work”. HMI Lead inspector : April 2012

Quality of Teaching • Working walls to scaffold and sequence the learning journey • Identification of areas for improvement in children’s writing across the school • Enriched learning opportunities to generate enthusiasm for writing • Planned interventions such as Springboard and Further Literacy Support • Senior Leadership/Local Authority Learning Walks

Leadership and Management • “The headteacher, ably supported by the deputy headteacher, continue to focus intensely and clearly on addressing the areas for improvement identified at the last inspection”. • “ Certain initiatives to improve the quality of teaching have been successful, such as involving pupils more actively in lessons”. • “There is a comprehensive tracking system in place to monitor pupils’ progress”. • “Middle leaders have begun to develop their roles in order to build the school's capacity for improvement”. • HMI Lead inspector : April 2012

Leadership and Management • Subject Leader Action Plans, learning walks and planning and book Scrutiny • Senior Leadership supporting and monitoring identified Year groups • Development of all staff in the assessment process. • Middle leaders leading staff training on identified targets for their subject responsibility

Next Steps • Review and evaluate Risk Assessments • To develop further opportunities to challenge in all lessons • Opportunities for children to respond to marking • Ensure marking relates to targets • Subject Leaders to continue raise standards in their subject • Teachers to use Teacher Assessment when planning lessons and identifying underachievement • Enhancing the role of play leaders
