Delhi City Profile • Capital of India and the third largest city in India, • Area:- covers an area of 1,484 square kilometers. • Situated on the bank of Yamuna River • The climate of Delhi is both way extreme in nature • Unbearable summer with temperatures hovering around 25 C to 46 C. • GDP 11.5% • GDP Per capita: Rs. 3,60,644

Transportation • A number of national highways converge at Delhi • Several railway lines also meet there, linking the National Capital with all parts of the country. • Delhi is an important air terminus ; for both international and domestic services. • The traffic-circulation pattern of Delhi was originally designed for a smaller population; but with Delhi’s explosive growth, the system quickly became overburdened. • Improvements to the road system—such as adding overpasses and underpasses and widening • The volume of traffic—which includes slow-moving vehicles such as bullock carts, Pedi cabs, and bicycles—makes road travel in Delhi difficult. • Several bridges are built in the late 20th and early 21st centuries have helped to ease the flow of traffic over the Yamuna River

National/Local Plan or StrategyTransport Sector in The National Capital Region • The Functional Plan on Transport prepared and approved by the NCR Planning Board in 1995 envisaged an organized transport network to improve accessibility and the movement of goods and passengers within the region • The Functional Plan on Transport suggested construction of road and rail linkages along the high-density routes

Policies & Strategies • To decongest NCT-Delhi roads, rail and rail terminals by diverting the by passable traffic from Delhi. • To provide linkages amongst Metro/Regional Urban Settlements in the outlying areas of NCR. • To connect Metro/Regional Centres with the Capital by an efficient and effective transport network for facilitating faster movement of traffic among such centres and NCT-Delhi. • To link the Sub-regional Centres with effective and efficient transport network for facilitating the faster movement of traffic. • To introduce the Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority for NCR.

Action Plan on Transport Sector • Better integrated connectivity and accessibility in the region through development of Peripheral Expressways and Mass Rapid Transit System (RRTS). • Delhi follows a composite transportation model referred to as Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) comprising of fleet of low floor buses, battery operated buses, cluster buses, link and feeder service buses. • Unrestricted movement of buses, taxis and auto-rickshaws in NCR. • Rail link between Delhi NCR. • To be construct moderate overpasses and underpasses for special need person. • Unified Time Table for Bus System. • To be construct High Capacity Bus System Corridors.

Government initiative on Green Delhi pollution free environment • Delhi government presents 'green budget’ aims at controlling pollution. • CNG as an alternate fuel (with low emission) to fix its air pollution problem its used in public transport system significantly. • Odd Even Rule in Delhi, to control air pollution Only odd-numbered cars were allowed on the roads between 8 am and 8 pm on odd dates and even numbered cars on even dates, except on Sundays • A bike taxi service and increase in the metro frequency were increased to make the plan successful. • Metro network is continuously increased day by day in Delhi NCR. • New flyover construction projects is one of the major initiatives. • 1000 e-buses to ply on roads by June 2019 and have started constructing depots for the same.

Programmes to Raise Awareness • Road show, street theatre and film show among masseswith messages to use public transport and Non Motorized Transport systems and reduce using private vehicles by following carpooling and joint travel etc. • Sensitization workshop on promoting e-transport, Climate Change in collaboration with Department of Transport, Deptt.. of Renewable energy, • National Pollution Control Board for school children. • Mass campaigning on pollution checking with local youths • Advocacy with local civic agencies, civil society to have campaign on clean Delhi – Green Delhi • Design appropriate IEC material
