  1. Welcome to Curriculum Night! 6th Grade Mrs. Anderson, Mr. Ball, Ms. DaRugna, and Mr. Wood

Daily Schedule 8:35 School Begins 8:45 – 9:15 BLOCK (Band/Orchestra/Music/PE) 9:20 – 10:20 Academics Session 1 10:25 -11:25 Academics Session 2 11:30 – 12:30 Academics Session 3 12:35 – 1:15 Recess and Lunch 1:20 – 2:20 Academics Session 4 2:25 – 3:05 Homeroom 3:05 Dismissal ***SCHEDULE SUBJECT TO CHANGE***

  3. Attendance: • Please make every effort to have your child in school and on time everyday. • Schedule appointments/vacations for half-days and intercessions.

  4. Behavior: -Students are expected to follow school and classroom rules. -Must follow same rules in special area classes. -Students who do not follow rules will have consequences.

  5. Dress Code Baseball hats ONLY ALLOWED on the playground. With arms placed straight at side, shorts and skirts need to be as long as the tip of your thumb. Shirt straps need to be at least 1 ½ inches wide. No sagging pants. Students will receive ONE warning, second time they will be sent to the office. *If unsure, it’s best not to wear it!

  6. Personal Items/Cell Phones • Students must keep cell phones OFF and IN THEIR BACKPACKS while they are on campus. If they have it out it will be taken to the office for the parent to pick up. • Personal items, such as toys and sports equipment, are not permitted at school. Please keep these distractions at home.

  7. Homework Given Monday – Thursday Students will have some take home projects Students are expected to: • Keep binder organized and up-to-date • Write assignments in agenda. • Read every night for at least 20 minutes and respond in journal. • Complete homework neatly and in a timely manner. • Practice math facts and study for tests.

  8. Friday Flash: • Given every Friday • Show student behavior for the week • Show missing assignments/homework • Previous week tests attached** • Notes from teacher (upcoming events. comments, etc.) • Tells about projects/activities and their dates Must be signed by parent/guardian!

  9. Accelerated Reader • Students are expected to read several grade appropriate books. • Students will need to take (and pass with a 70%) the AR test for each book. • AR will count as a grade. Students need to read at least 150,000 words (approx. 3-4 books) per quarter. • Book word counts can be found on www.arbookfind.com

  10. End of Quarter Luncheons: • Celebration of quarter completion • Parent/Guardian hosted • Set up/Clean up • Pick up and serve food • Quarterly theme • Donations

  11. Assessments and Grades • Students who are absent during an will have to make up tests during recess. • Infinite Campus is the online grading system used by the district. Teachers will enter most grades within a week of testing. • The Parent Portal is the way for you to view and keep updated with your child’s progress. The link can be found on the Weinberg home page and the office can provide assistance. PLEASE check it regularly so there are no surprises at progress report and report card time.

  12. Curriculum for 6th grade • In your packet is a guideline showing what concepts will be taught throughout the year. • We outlined the key concepts that will be taught in Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and Social Studies.

  13. Parent/Teacher Contact • The class website is a great place to find the calendar, forms, photos of student work, etc. • www.mychandlerschools.org/Weinberg • Click on Grade Level and follow the links. • Parents can sign up for notifications • Updates, events, special class activities, etc. will be emailed to parents if not on Friday Flash. • Email is the quickest way to contact us!

  14. Snacks/Water: • Bring water bottle and a HEALTHY snack everyday. • If a student brings in items from the not permitted list, they will not be able to eat it until they go to lunch. • NO GUM ALLOWED AT SCHOOL!

  15. Treats • Let us know in advance. • At the end of the day. • Must be store bought, with napkins. • Something simple: cookies, donuts, or cupcakes.

  16. Parent Volunteers: • Junior Achievement • (1+ volunteer(s), 6+ lessons) • Art Masterpiece • (1+ volunteer(s), year-round lessons) • Clerical i.e. Maker of Copies • (Several volunteers, year-round)

  17. Tax Credit • Form on Chandler District Website • www.mychandlerschools.org • Donations go directly to the school (or teacher if indicated)
