  2. Nature was important to native cultures. Many believed in animism or the idea that animals and places had a spirit. Is there a place or animal that is special to you?

  3. Totem poles were created by many cultures to commemorate big events, chronicle history, or just be artsy. The animals shown have symbolic meanings.

  4. 6000 years ago! Cave Painting: North America, especially the Southwest, has many examples of cave painting thousands of years old. These may tell a story, teach a lesson, or just say “I was here.”

  5. Baskets are practical and have unique designs.

  6. The Inuit live in Alaska and Northern Canada.

  7. The Anishinaabe are native to Michigan.

  8. Be inspired by what you learned here and create a project to introduce yourself to the class.You could…. *Make a totem pole*Draw or make a collage*Create something 3D*Use natural scenes or places*Use animals*Do something with your name and its meaning or importance
