  15. 4th Degree Honor GuardNew Uniform • Exemplifications-New Uniform, Dress & Attire for Sir Knights in Honor Guard includes: • Navy Blue Blazer w/4th Degree Emblem Blazer Crest • Official 4th Degree Lapel Pin (PG 113 only) • Official 4th Degree Grey Trousers • Official 4th Degree Necktie • Official 4th Degree Beret w/4th Degree metal badge & appropriate colored patch • Plain white shirt-Button cuff (no French cuffs-no button down collar shirts) • Black socks and Plain Black shoes • Incumbent Medal of Office • Past & Former Miniature Medals above the left pocket

  16. 4th Degree Honor GuardNew Uniform • The social baldric is retained and is worn by members either with a black tuxedo or the dark suit (black, navy or grey). • A social baldric is NOT worn with the new uniform. Only a service baldric w/sword is worn with the new uniform when performing the Honor Guard function. • Name tags are not worn at any time with the new uniform, regardless as a member of the Honor Guard or at a social event.

  17. 4th Degree Honor GuardNew Uniform To order the new uniform, the website that is live and functional can be found at www.kocuniform.com. There is also a slider on Knightsgear.com that will lead you to the website to place an order. This will also allow you to order your colored patch for your beret.

  18. New Uniform Q: Will the new uniform allow the use of ceremonial swords? A: Yes. Ceremonial swords will continue to be part of the Fourth Degree. When swords are used, white gloves are to be used. Q: How will rank be distinguished? A: Currently colored patches worn on the beret behind 4th Degree emblem: Dark Blue - Supreme Master Light Blue - Vice Supreme Masters Gold - District Masters White - Faithful Navigators Green - District Marshals Purple - Color Corp Commanders Those not holding office (who formerly wore red capes) will wear berets with no colored patch.

  19. New Uniform Other changes may or may not be implemented in the future. Thought about having the service baldric denote a Knight’s position has been discussed and reviewed. Two different styles have been discussed but no decisions have been made

  22. New Uniform Q: Where can I purchase the new uniform and obtain the appropriate color patch? A: Ordering new uniforms and patches should be sent to www.kofcuniform.com. Q: Will there be discounts offered on the new uniform? A: The discount period ended 11-30-17

  23. New Uniform Q: What if a member just purchased the old regalia? A: Any member who purchased the old regalia after May 1, 2017, can submit their receipt along with their member number to regaliacredit@kofc.org. Information will then be sent to that member on how to receive a $200 credit toward the new uniform. Q: Can the old regalia still be worn? A: Yes, for a time. While the preference is for the new uniform wherever possible, the old regalia can still be worn until the end of fraternal year June 30, 2019. After that date only the new uniform should be worn.

  24. Honor Guards • Integration of Old regalia and New uniform • Lining up: By rank. Marshal leads with CCC of host Assembly followed by Vice Supreme Master and Master, former VSMs, former Masters, additional Marshals, additional CCCs, Faithful Navigators, PFNs and then Rank and File. • Dependent on numbers for each rank, pair up by type of regalia, e.gold regalia with old regalia, new uniform with new uniform. • The first in the various groupings should be the new uniform.

Exemplifications • Teaches the virtue of Patriotism • Made up of 5 events: • Registration – responsibility of Master’s Admin Team • Degree Exemplification – responsibility of 4th Degree Team • Ladies Program – responsibility of Host Assembly • Mass – responsibility of Host Assembly • Banquet – responsibility of Host Assembly

  28. Exemplifications • Invitation Letter: • Letter developed by Master’s Advisory Team Registrar for degree working with Faithful Navigator. Assigned Registrar will provide letter format, FN will provide mass times so that appropriate time schedule can be selected • Approved letter is e-mailed to FN’s, GK’s, DD’s, Marshals, Webmaster, Vice Supreme Master, Master and State Officers. This is handled by Master’s Executive Secretary • Letter consists of 3 parts: Letter of Invitation, Registration form and Ad purchase form

Exemplification • Registration: • Initiation fee $70, includes Deacons, covers cost of social baldric, lapel pin, fee to Supreme per candidate and banquet ticket for candidate • Cost of banquet is set by Assembly w/$5 added for Master costs. Five dollar surcharge is not attached to priest’s meal. • Separate check for each candidate. • Sir Knights attending exemplification as Honor Guard or Section guides but not attending banquet need not register

Exemplification • Form 4 information required: Candidate’s membership number along with name and address, signatures of candidate, proposer, FS certification of candidate’s council membership in good standing, Faithful Navigator and Comptroller. • Send Form 4 with registration. It is to be submitted by FN or FC not the GK of the council nor the candidate themselves • If you scan & email Form 4, do so in color at least 300DPI and as a pdf. Actual Form 4 and check can be provided to registration desk personal on day of degree

  31. Exemplification • If guests are entered on line for candidate’s registration, do not re-enter in guest section • Collect payment from candidate when receiving Form 4. If cash, have assembly deposit cash and issue an assembly check to Master of the District. DO NOTsend cash through the mail. • If e-mailing registration and Form 4, do not scan and e-mail check. Provide the Candidate/Guest name, check number and amount

Exemplification • Please include an e-mail address in contact information • Special needs necessitates personal contact with Degree Registrar and Host Assembly POC • If candidate only speaks Spanish, we do have the degree translated in Spanish that can be read through a headset system possessed by the state. • Confirm with Country Store proprietor that they are able to be in attendance. Exemplification • ADS • DM encourages Assemblies to purchase year long ads. • Ads help Master and Host Assembly offset cost of printing program books • Host Assembly is charged the cost of printing program that exceeds cost covered by year ads • Host Assembly is encouraged to sell one-time ads. • Ad revenue is split 60-40 between Host Assembly & Master • Master uses 40% to offset the Host Assembly’s cost of certificates, holders and membership cards

Exemplification • At Exemplification: • Candidate receives his social baldric & 4th degree lapel pin • Certificates and cards are presented when candidate is knighted during degree. • At End of Exemplification: • Membership card needs signatures of Assembly’s FN and Comptroller • Candidates turn in name badges to Advisory Team member as they exit the chamber at the conclusion of degree

  36. Exemplification • Representative from Assembly needs to pick up signed FS and Assembly copies of Form4 outside the chamber after the degree. • Late registrations will receive invoice for an assessment of $10 per candidate being registered as a late fee.

  37. Structure of the 4th Degree • Supreme Master • Districts– Province divided into Districts. Currently there are 124 districts. • Assembly–Led by the Faithful Navigator. For a biennial meeting, FN is an automatic delegate & the assembly is given anadditional delegate for each 100 members in the assembly.

  38. Relationship 4th Degree to 3rd Degree • All Fourth Degree members - must be in good standing in the Third Degree. When a member is terminated/suspended from his council, he is automatically terminated/suspended from the Fourth Degree. • If council goes defunct, members of the 4th degree have an opportunity to transfer into an active council. They do not get suspended for non-payment of dues to a defunct council as they have not been billed.

  39. Relationship 4th Degree to 3rd Degree • Transfers • Into Assembly – make sure they are properly transferred into an associated council to the assembly if not already to insure they are a 3rd degree member in good standing. • Into Council – Financial Secretaries should check with transfers into a council to see if they are 4th degree members and if not already in the council’s assigned assembly, contact can be made to initiate a transfer into the appropriate assembly.

  40. Fourth Degree Ceremonials • Assembly Meeting • Conducted in accordance with Form 2066 “Responsibilities of Faithful Navigator” • Installation of Officers • Should be conducted in 1st quarter of fraternal year. Sooner the better • Renewal of Obligations (Optional) • Should be conducted 3rd quarter of fraternal year. Sooner the better

MEMBERSHIP • Refresh • Meetings go 1 to 1.5 hrs – organize them better to condense to 30-45 5minutes • Social/entertainment portion is important to attendees • Have guest speakers and/or video presentations • 4th Degree members need to invite 3rd degree members to join • 4th degree growth should be designed to edify, strengthen and empower Brother Knights to become better husbands, fathers and Catholic gentlemen especially within the scope of patriotism and civic involvement

MEMBERSHIP • Recruit • Invite a Brother 3rd degree Knight to consider the 4th degree • Request a roster of 3rd degree Knights from your assigned councils • Host a 4th degree corporate communion 1 or 2 times a yr inviting all Knights of all council and have a small social afterwards • Help 3rd degree Knight fill out form 4 • Have at least one major social event during fraternal year with a featured guest speaker, dinner, etc

  44. MEMBERSHIP • Reinforce • Ensure sponsor Brother Sir Knight invites new Sir Knight to next meeting and if necessary offer to take him • Invite new Sir Knight to serve on committee or project immediately, get him involved • Make sure new Sir Knight is on mailing list or communication roster

  45. Membership Recruiting • 6 Vital Steps to Growing the 4th Degree • Appoint-Membership Director to help grow and activate membership • Invite-Visit 3rd Degree Knights in associated councils, invite them to join the 4th Degree & help with Patriotic & Civic events • Mentor-Identify & assist Knights in completing Form 4’s & serve as a mentor. Attend the Exemplification with candidate.

  46. Membership Recruiting • Accompany-After Exemplification accompany him to his first 4th Degree meeting • Schedule-As an assembly, schedule a 4th Degree Social Event. Invite the Knights of all councils in assembly and their spouses • Amplify-Make assembly meetings smooth & timely, maybe guest speakers, refreshments

  47. Membership Recruiting Recruitment!!! Does Assembly have a Membership Director and a Membership Committee? As a Faithful Navigator, are you communicating with the Grand Knights of your council(s)? As Membership Director of your Assembly, are you communicating w/Membership Director of the Council(s)?

  48. Membership Recruiting As the Faithful Navigator, do you or your representative attend assigned Council(s) meetings and provide an informative report on the workings of the assembly? Have you requested a council roster from Grand Knights of your council(s) in order to ID potential new members? Do you have a Program Director for your Assembly and is he in contact with the Council(s) Program Director? Do you have programs for the members?

  49. Membership Recruiting Membership is every member’s business. There is no reason why eligible 3rd degree members should not be invited to join the 4th Degree. Our mission is to enhance, perpetuate & maintain our good name, works and visibility of the 4th Degree. Our priority should be to increase membership to expand our presence. Supreme has identified that in order to grow the 4th Degree, a minimum of 2% membership growth over death &suspensions each year is needed.
