  2. Overview of CDI: • Part of the Prevention and Early Intervention Programme; • Partnership between DCYA and The AP; • Seven evidence-informed interventions identified following three years of consultation; • Eight independent evaluations.

  3. CDI Interventions: • Two year early years service; • Doodle Den literacy for Senior Infant children; • Early Intervention Speech and Language; • Healthy Schools Programme; • Mate-Tricks Pro-Social Behaviour Programme; • Community Safety Initiative; • Restorative Practice.

  4. Complexity of CDI Evaluations: 3 Randomised Controlled Trials 3 Process Evaluations Quasi-Experimental Study Healthy School’s Programme – (TCD) Retrospective Impact Study Speech & Language Therapy

  5. Interagency Working: • Interagency Steering committees – HSP, CSI, SHP; RP Management; Implementation Support Group; • Interagency focus in EY and HSP; • Formal arrangements, e.g. MoU, ToR; • Children Services Committee and sub-committees.

  6. Key Learning: • Delivering manualised, evidence based programmes requires a shift in mind set, ongoing support, capacity building and management buy-in; • Making change is slow! • Schools require tailored methods of engagement; • Good governance really helps; • Inter- agency collaboration is never ending; • Instincts aren’t enough- children and families enjoying services doesn’t always mean they are achieving improved outcomes.

  7. Actions and Progress: • Meetings of the PEIP with Government re area-based approaches to child poverty; • Leading the Research and Evaluation in Policy and Practice Initiative; • Doodle Den being delivered through SCP in TW and Limerick; • CCC role re SLT and Parent Support.

  8. Next Steps: • Integration of learning and models into existing provision; • Dissemination of research and learning – round tables; launches; policy papers; • Follow up studies of SLT and Doodle Den; • Archive data; • Publish REPP book.
