  1. Seminar on Spatial Science and Applications Lecture 1 Hongjie Xie, Geological Sciences/UTSA

  2. Purposes • Learn how to write, submit, revise, and review a paper for publication • Student reviews a paper for publication • Student leads discussions on peer-reviewed papers • Student writes a paper based on what learned

  3. Student reviews a paper • A case paper will be given and students will review the paper and submit review comments • The comments will be submitted one week after the paper will be given and will be graded and will be compared/discussed with each other and with peer-reviewed comments from the Journal • A revised paper will be reviewed again and further comments will be submitted (one week after the paper will be given) for grading and will compared/discussed with each other and with per-reviewed comments from the Journal • ……

  4. Student-lead discussions • Each student will select a topic of their research thesis or interest • Identify 2 or more papers to review and discuss • Distribute chosen papers two weeks before your discussion slot to the class • Lead the discussion

  6. Write a paper • Each student will write a paper of your current study/thesis, based on what you learned from the class • The paper will be graded completely based on all the requirements and issues discussed in the class.
