  1. KFC 3/26/14 • What, in your opinion, was the most powerful part of your reading last night? Why? Remember to give specific examples from the text.

  3. Rhetoric • Today we are going to discuss the three main types of rhetoric. • Have your notebooks and pens out, because you will need to take notes on this.

  4. Rhetorical Devices • Ethos – moral character • Pathos – emotions • Logos – logic and reason

  5. Partner Reading:” • You are your partner are going to read “The Idiot and the Coatman. • As you read, you are going to identify different types of rhetoric used and add these to your graphic organizer.

  6. Reflection • What examples of rhetoric did you find. Describe the example and explain what type of rhetoric it is.

  7. Reflection • On page 401, Frau Diller spits at Hans’ feet and calls him a ‘… dirty Jew lover.” In the context of this novel, is this an example of rhetoric? If so, what is the author trying to persuade you to?

  8. Reflection • On page 403, it says the Gestapo had come for Rudy. • Why do you think they are coming for him? Based on your prediction, do you think there is any type of rhetoric involved in this plot development?
