Why you need to know. There are 14.5 million refugees throughout the world; 80% are women and children.Approximately 85,000 refugees live in the United States. Omaha has an increasing refugee population. In 2007 alone, Lutheran Family Services resettled 207 individuals in Omaha and Lincoln.
