  1. starter activity In May 2012 Mark Zuckerberg put his company up for sale. The public could buy a piece or pieces of the company known as shares. Their money would be used to improve Facebook and in return they would receive an annual income known as dividends. Would you buy shares in Facebook? What are the dangers in buying shares?   3. In 1928 Herbert Hoover, Republican, won the presidential election. He famously said as entered the White House in 1929, ‘We in America today are nearer to the final triumph over poverty than ever before ….the poor man is vanishing from us’. Within months of this speech, the world was plunged into one of the deepest recessions ever seen. Read the extract from Walsh, ‘Modern World History’ p.211-2 and try to identify as many different causes of the Wall Street Crash as you can. How far do you think Hoover and the US administration was to blame?
