  2. What Is It? A waste and recycling broker is a management firm and consultant. They do not haul waste or dispose of waste. They partner with customers to: • Reduce their waste volumes; • Increase their recycled volumes; • Streamline their waste and recycling operations; • Reduce costs.

  3. Typical Agreement • No upfront or consultation fees; • Shared Savings for 3 – 5 years; • Savings typically 10% - 30% of current spend.

  4. Performance Guarantee • If recommendations do not result in quantifiable total savings of at least 10% at any time during the term of the Agreement, Client may terminate this Agreement with written notice. • Client approval of recommendations that yield a positive financial impact may not be unreasonably withheld.

  5. Other Important Terms • In the event an individual recommendation involves capital investment, approval of this individual recommendation shall be at the sole discretion of Client. • All information received and the terms of this Agreement shall be held completely confidential by both Parties.

  6. Proprietary Work Product • Client agrees that all reports, analysis, and recommendations and opportunities identified are Brokers Confidential and Proprietary Work Product and may not be implemented by Client at any other Client facility unless Broker is compensated. • This provision shall survive for 12 months after termination of the Agreement.

  7. Savings Come From • Identify and correct overcharging; • Negotiate better pricing; • Right size waste containers; • Load monitors – pull when full; • Increased recycling.

  8. Getting Started • Pilot Program: 2 – 5 facilities; • Choose facilities that do not have existing contracts or ones that are close to expire; • Provide last year of invoices; • Provide existing agreements/contracts; • Generate savings proposal and pilot agreement.

  9. Ongoing Services • Examine Client’s waste and recycling invoices for errors and/or overcharges (corrections not part of shared savings); • Assist Client in resolution of vendor-relate service issues; • Evaluate the accuracy and validity of vendor price increases; • Negotiate new vendor service agreements; • Provide monthly savings reports generated through broker recommendations; • Optional bill payment service (single invoice to Client)

  10. Savings at St. Charles, IL • Change current trash service from 3x week to “on call” service; • Increase to 8 –> 10 tons per haul; • Install Load Monitor to automatically manage compactor pick ups; • Negotiate better pricing for recycled cardboard.

  11. Savings at Springfield, MA • Change Waste Hauler with new negotiated pricing; • Increase to 8.3 –> 10.3 tons per haul; • Change current recycling service from 2x week to “on call” service; • Add cardboard baler; • Negotiate better pricing for recycled cardboard.
