Turbulent backstep Turbulent backstep Free surface Inflow Outflow Wall functions • Simulations have been made for a simple backward facing step test case. • The aim of the model is to try to match the length of the recirculation zone with experimental data and compare with other simulations. • A coarse mesh with 1040 elements was used in the simulations.

  3. Results Turbulent backstep - Results • About 80% agreement of the recirculation zone length is found. • The discrepancy is mostly due to the inadequacies of the k- turbulence model. • Other turbulence models and/or corrections may improve matters.
