  2. Viewing • Version 1 (sounds down): what do you think they have been invited to? • watch 1 again. How should Peter have clarified(阐明,澄清) his invitation? How should Maria and Jens have respond? • Watch version 2. do you think the invitation is now clear? How do Jens and Maria respond this time?

  7. Culture note Invitations out • Being invited to someone’s home in a foreign country poses questions about what to wear, what to take, and when to arrive and leave. Going out for a meal or a drink can present other difficulties. It is not always clear from the invitation who is going to pay. Questions like ‘do you fancy a drink?’ or ‘what aboiut a meal?’ could mean you are offering to buy a drinkd or meal. • This is my round. Let me get this.   8. Student A You are hosting a business conference at your company. There are number of foreign delegates. One of them is the general managere of a key subsidiary. Invite him/her for dinner in a restaurant. Student B You are the GM. You are attending a business conference at the HQ of your com. Student A is in charge of the conference and will invite you for dinner. Agree on a suitable evening and make sure you understand all the arrangements. Socializing practice

  9. Student A You are in charge of a visitor. While he / she is in your country, you would like to show him / her somem of the sights. Try to arrange a tour of the city and the surrounding area sometime over the next weekend. Student B You are visiting A’s country. You are in the country for another ten days. You would very much like to see some of the sights and you are hoping to do this over the weekend.
