Compound Words • Compound words are made up of two smaller words. • Here is a test: • If you cover up either part, is it a word that can stand on its own? • If not it is not a compound word: • Helpful-Yes or no? • Nightmare-Yes or no?

Compound words Find the compound word in the sentence: • She fell over the workbench in the darkness. • It was thoughtful to give a football to him for Christmas. • It was helpful to talk about the nightmare.
