  1. Non-Residential Network Computer Power Management The Measure formerly know as Network PC Control RTF March 2, 2011

  2. Status • Last Updated May 4, 2010 • Provisional UES 115 kWh/year • (weighted desktop & laptop with monitors) • First wave of Deemed Measure Review Recs • Remain provisional • To move to Deemed need to update • UES based on upcoming studies Avista & Puget • Need recent computer purchases for baseline power • Need HVAC interaction • Subcommittee met Feb 3 & 4, 2011 • Notes, worksheets and slides on the IT sector subcommittee page

  3. Today Review Findings from Avista & Puget Recommendations based on findings Discuss value of data on new purchases Discuss HVAC Interaction Factor Guidance to SBW for wrap up & conformance with draft guidelines

  4. Go to Cadmus Slides for Puget Sound Energy Study

  5. Go to Avista Slides or Work Book

  6. Inferred* Hours Mode Shift Annual savings/delta W, for comparison only. Actual hour shift is lower.

  7. Summary Findings • Estimates of power by mode align for Desktop • 58 to 60 Watts active, 3 Watts low • Estimates of hours of power mode shift • Sensitive to weekend , holiday & work load • Range 1700 to 3200 hours/year shifted • Central tendency both studies 2100 – 2600 hours • No power mode shift data for laptops • Cannot tell if or when PS profile was pushed • Unknown how many are out of office • Lower delta Watts

  8. Group Recommendations • Probably Deemable • Deem delta Watts & Hours of mode shift • Reasonable samples with mix of conditions • Limit deemed measure to desktops • 18-month sunset due to changing op system • Annualize per Cadmus method • 48 weeks in normal activity, 4 weeks light activity • Use PSE/Cadmus data for shape of savings • Alt: Could be standard protocol w/ calculator • Systems report hours shifted, need to annualize • Measuring power mode is problematic

  9. Not Addressed by Subcommittee • HVAC Interaction Factor • Could use lighting yield factors • But some savings at night • Monitor savings & Monitors per station • Approach for laptops

  10. Recommendation Forward findings to SBW SBW prepares deemed measure for desktops and RTF consideration
