W_TAM iv What’s New for the 2011 FCAT Writing • Writing prompt has been removed from the Writing Folder • NO barcode numbers on the Writing Folder or Prompt Sheet • Used prompt sheets are still considered secure materials and must be collected after testing • Maintain a record of required administration information • New Administration Record/Security Checklist • No field for security numbers • Fields added for verifying that students have returned each type of secure document (Writing folders, prompt sheets, and planning sheets) • Packages of Writing Prompt Sheets may be opened on the day of testing or on the evening before testing, but NO EARLIER

W_TAM iv, 16 What’s New for the 2011 FCAT Writing (continued) • Writing PreID labels and rosters will arrive in districts two weeks prior to test administration and will not be included in the test materials shipment. • Large print Writing Folder is now 4 pages instead of 8 pages. • Test Group Code box has been added to the inside front cover of the Writing Folder.

Weekly Briefing #8746 Computer-based practice testsWhat’s New for the 2011 FCAT/FCAT 2.0 • Computer-Based Test (CBT) Practice Tests (ePATs) • FCAT Reading Retake & FCAT Grade 10/Mathematics Retake • Instructions for the ePATs and answers to all practice tests are posted under the Resources tab at www.FLAssessments.com/ePATs • ePats scripts are found in the CBT test administration manual • All students who will participate in this administration MUST participate in a practice session conducted at their school. • Practice sessions should begin at least 3 weeks prior to the test administration window and the CBT test script MUST be used. • It should be noted that the purpose of the ePat practice tests is to familiarize students with the platform and item types, but the sample items are not intended to indicate the rigor or complexity of the actual test items.

W_TAM 1; RMS_TAM 2 Students to be Tested • In general, all Florida public school students enrolled in tested grade levels (Grades 3-11) participate in the FCAT/FCAT 2.0 per Section 1008.22(3)(c)8, Florida Statute. Students must take the test appropriate for the grade level in which they are enrolled. • Writing: Grades 4, 8, 10 • Reading: Grades 3-10 • Mathematics: Grades 3-8, and 10 • Science: Grades 5, 8, 11 • Retained students at tested grade levels are expected to participate in FCAT / FCAT 2.0 Writing, Reading, Mathematics, and Science.

RMS_TAM 2-3 Students to be Tested (continued) • EXCEPTION: Grade 10 students • First time Grade 10 students (students who entered Grade 9 in Fall 2009) participate in the Grade 10 FCAT 2.0 Reading and FCAT Grade 10/ Mathematics Retake. • Retained Grade 10 students DO NOT participate in scheduled Grade 10 tests. • Retained Grade 10 students DO participate in the Retake administration. • All students enrolled in Grade 10 participate in the FCAT/FCAT 2.0 regardless of any ACT or SAT concordant scores on file.

Weekly Briefing # 9033 Test Accommodations Field in ISIS • Verify that all students requiring special assessment test materials have the proper test accommodation documented in the District’s Integrated Student Information System (ISIS). • Test Accommodations field on the Additional ESE Information screen in ISIS. • Please refer to Weekly Briefing #9033. • Note: Verify receipt of the Large Print (LP), Braille (BR) and One Item-Per-Page (OIPP) materials for all students who require them as soon as materials are delivered.

W_TAM 65-72 RMS_TAM 5, 275-282 Accommodation Highlights • Work with ESE and ESOL teachers to determine appropriate accommodations for each student. • IF included in the IEP, 504 Plan, or LEP Plan– extended time must be allowed. • A student with the accommodation of extra time must complete one session before continuing to the next session. • Accommodations may not alter what is being tested. • For example, reading passages may NEVER be read to students taking the Reading test.

W_TAM v, 25; RMS_TAM viii, Scripts Prohibited Activities: Electronic Devices (continued) • Possession of any electronic device that reproduces, transmits, calculates, or recordsIScause for invalidation. • “Possession” is defined as “within arm’s reach,” even if the electronic device is not visible. • Students should not have cell phones in their pockets, clipped to their belts, at their desks, or anywhere they can be easily accessed during testing. • Test administrators and proctors should also turn-off their electronic devices during testing.

W_TAM 16, 34; RMS_TAM 222 Testing Location Considerations • Use classrooms whenever possible. • Make sure that each room is free of distractions and has • Comfortable seating • Good lighting • Sufficient workspace • Adequate ventilation • Avoid testing in a cafeteria, gymnasium, auditorium, or library whenever possible. • Make sure that: • students are not facing each other when seated at tables. • students are not in seating (stadium or staggered) that allows them to easily view other students’ answers. • there is at least three feet between students. • Remove or cover all visual aids on student desks or displayed in the room, such as posters showing mathematical and scientific concepts.

Computer-based testing considerations • Allow sufficient work space for Work Folders and Reading Passage Booklets • Provide a secure testing environment • During the practice test, check the configuration of the room • Use visual blocks (e.g., file folders taped to the side of computers) • Consider the number of proctors needed based on the number of students tested.

W_TAM iv; RMS_TAM 18 Preparing paper-based test materials: Security Numbers • A security number consists of a nine-digit number followed by a check digit. • Written documentation of the number ranges must be maintained at all times during distribution and return of materials. • Pre-populated Administration Record/Security checklist is provided with a list of security numbers for all documents with security numbers assigned to each school • A blank copy of the checklist is provided as a perforated page in Appendix C of the manuals. • Test administrator may use the pre-populated administration record/security checklist, a blank copy of the checklist, or a comprehensive record of security numbers. • Security number(s) of the document(s) assigned to and returned by each student should be recorded and verified at the completion of each day of testing. • Security numbers of secure materials not already listed MUST be added to the record with the names of the students to whom the test materials are assigned.

Preparing Computer-based Test Materials • Train test administrators and proctors • Administer practice session to all students • Login to PearsonAccess operational (blue) site • Verify the accuracy of ALL PreID student information • Add new students or delete students with inaccurate information for reentry, if applicable • Create classes and assign students to classes • Create test sessions and assign classes to test sessions • Print Student Authorizations Tickets • Provide Session Roster, Student Authorization Tickets, and test group codes to test administrator on the day of testing.

W_TAM 8-9; RMS_TAM 12-13 PREIDENTIFIED ROSTER AND LABELS • The student information generated by the vendor is based on students enrolled at your school as of January 21 2011. • A Control D report was generated with the PreID file information • Verify the information on the PreID Roster against the school’s student information database. • Verify that students are still enrolled and will be tested. • The PreID Roster includes the complete Social Security Number (SSN) or Florida Student Number for each preidentified student. • Only the last four digits of the SSN preceded by five Xs and followed by one X (XXXXX7884X) are printed on the PreID labels. • You are NOT required to grid the missing numbers of a SSN. • Always use the Florida ID number, not the District’s student ID number when verifying student’s information or when hand-gridding an answer document.
