  1. FAST Radar System Engineering Overview

  2. FAST Radar Overview Overview: • What’s Required? • IIS 6.0 • With Microsoft.NET Framework 1.1 and SMTP for email • MS SQL Server 2000 and SP4 or MS SQL 2005 (Yukon) • FR Builder’s • We install 0, 1 or 2 builder’s depending on needs per server • What comes out of the box? • Everything… no separate components to license or buy • How does it get installed and how long does it take? • Through either .MSI file install on CD or manually • Just the install takes about 20 minutes

  3. FAST Radar Overview continued • Product Vision • Maximize the availability and usability of information • Minimize complexity, time, and systems overhead associated with many traditional BI applications. • 100% browser-based BI application • Built on Microsoft®.NET framework and HTML component technologies. • One Product, Many Solutions • No Browser Plugins, Active X controls to install Overview:

  4. Application Components Microsoft .NET Framework C# VB.NET HTML JavaScript FAST Radar is a member of the MS Partner Advisory Council “FAST Radar has been able to prove the real-world scalability and performance gains for applications leveraging Windows Server 2003 and the .NET platform” -Vic Gundotra, Platform General Manager at Microsoft Application Development Platform Architecture:

  6. FAST Radar Architecture FAST Radar Components: • Web Application • Builder & Subscriptions Services (these are not required) • Storehouse repository • Source Data – ESP, Mars, Oracle…

  7. DataSource Connectivity Architecture • DataSource Connections • Provide a business logic layer to determine the connection properties to source data. • Customize to specify connection, provider, security, and data access read methods. Import the DataSource schema to provide all the metadata required for FAST Radar application to use that source. • Maintain additional metadata for data within the FAST Radar Environment • Support ODBC, ADO, OLE DB, or native drivers to connect to virtually any structured data. • Support for Web Services and FAST ESP • Provides tools to connect to flat files and other unstructured content. • Data Sources • MS SQL Server, Oracle, DB2/UDB, Access, Sybase, SAS, etc., JDE, ESP, Web Services

  8. FAST Radar - One Tool, Many Solutions • Integrated Web Portal • Customer, Supplier, Partner views • User/Group view of data is unique • Dashboards • Personal Dashboards, Drillable KPI’s, • Reporting, Analysis, and Query Tools • Structured • Ad Hoc • Real Time or Snapshot • Non traditional Data Source Support • FAST Search, Web Services, JDE • Graphical BI Features including • Scorecards, Charts & Gauges • Email/Subscriptions • Portal Compliant Objects • SharePoint & ALUI Integration • Export • PDF, Excel, Word, XML, CSV • Data Write-back • Forecasting and Planning • Master Data Maintenance

  9. The Pyramid Foundation • What is a Pyramid? • A pyramid is pre-defined table structure for storage of pre-aggregated data • Why are Pyramids cool? • A cube stores all dimensions of data (X*Y*Z) that is sometimes larger in size than the base data and can take a long time to calculate. Most “reporting” is done using only a fraction of that capability. The pyramid allows for small, quick, solution-oriented reports that can be refreshed on demand or scheduled while keeping a drill-down or drill-through ability to pass criteria dynamically. “Power of the Pyramid” means that the customer no longer has to store every possible combination of data to generate useful, actionable, and timely responses to information that is being reported on.
